Hidden twin- ever had one?

I had IVF & 2 embryos put in. Scan yesterday showed 1 week smaller that dates, but 1 heartbeat. It was incredibly small & fuzzy though.

I'm extremely happy to get this far, but started reading about hidden twins. Any experience?

Honestly no. It's just so rare. I'd try and put it from your mind and plan for one you can see. Then if you're surprised further down the line that's great. DS1 was a twin but his twin had vanished by the 12 week scan. We could clearly see 2 embryos at the 6 week scan. I should say it wasn't an IVF pregnancy but I don't think that makes much difference.

I think they're very rare nowadays, because scans are very comprehensive. They check everything, such as ovaries/uterus, so there's not really anywhere for one to hide.

What did your sonographer say? There's a possibility if implantation was late that there were two sacs but only one had a heartbeat yet, but I would have thought the sonographer would have mentioned it.

Flowers congratulations on your baby

Thanks. Yes, extremely rare and I am very happy to get this far with just 1. (9yrs TTC). More common in identical twins and very early scans, but still rare. Sorry for your loss.

Thank you. It sounds awful I know but we were okish with his twin vanishing because he was our first and we were just so excited to have one. I'd had an ectopic and a few miscarriages prior and just having the one felt like a miracle. Enjoy your pregnancy, it's a fantastic feeling to finally get a sticky baby!
