16wk midwife appointment

I was told at my 10w midwife appointment they’d use the 16w appointment to listen to baby’s heartbeat, check urine, blood pressure, and take blood.

I’ve just had a text to say this will now be done by telephone (so none of those 4 things can be done).

Is there any point in having the telephone appointment? What else do we need to discuss? I appreciate they’re doing the best they can to stay safe (and keep us safe) during this period of time, but if the purpose of the appointment is no longer there, do I even need to ‘attend’?

Have any of you had a 16w telephone appointment yet? What did you cover?

Thanks. Hope you’re all keeping well and as relaxed as you can be at the moment.

I had my 16 week appointment on the phone. Mainly to go through blood test results from booking appointments. I need anti-d injection because of blood type so that was booked in at the time.

She also checked I'd revived my 20 week scan appointment and how I was feeling and asked how I was feeling and any questions. Also told me she will see me in person at 25 weeks appointment.

I believe they will do the urine and blood pressure checks at the 20 week scan instead so only one contact needed.

I had mine yesterday. It was very rushed (on the phone for under 7 mins) and relatively pointless - she just fed back that my bloods were fine and told me that all the other checks would be done at my 20 week scan. I totally get why it was changed to a telephone appt but yeah it wasn't really an appointment more of a quick check in in case you had any questions. Always nice to hear from them though 😊

Thanks both, that’s helpful.

They gave me my booking appointment blood results at my 10w appointment where I gave blood for the combined test. Nothing outstanding for me other than the reports from my 12w scan and my NIPT which they still haven’t sent me Hmm

It'll probably just be a quick reassurance call and a chance to ask any questions you may have if you've already had your test results.
Just think of it as a way for them to check in with you between the 12 and 20 week scans which are the important things.... the 16 week appt isn't one of the appointments they consider 'essential' hence the change to a telephone appointment.

i had my 16w on the phone, it was really redundant to be honest!
