UC flare up during pregnancy

Hi, has anyone had a flare up of ulcerative colitis during pregnancy, and if so what was your treatment plan?

I was told you generally stay well during pg as you produce steroids naturally during this time.

Pretty worried as in the past i only respond to IV steroids which usually means 2 weeks in hospital.

Worried about my baby, were 22 weeks.

I don't have this but just wanted to say I do have Hyperemesis Gravidarum and treatment for that involves IV steroids so please don't worry if that's what you need. There are ones that are safe for baby.

Hi, I've had a couple of short flares (lasting a few days) but I've generally felt well whilst pregnant - also 22 weeks pregnant. What medication are you taking to manage your UC currently? I'm on Octasa, Azathioprine and Hyrimoz but will be coming off Hyrimoz at the end of 2nd trimester.

I should also say my IBD team have said to catch it early and depending on symptoms to try Pentasa (never worked for me but may be more effective whilst pregnant) or Budesonide which has had some success with me in the past. Like you, I've only tended to respond well to IV steroids but since going on Hyrimoz, I've felt well!

Glad you've felt well. I had 4 years of going in and out of hosp with no meds working. was put on vedo infusions and have been well for 2 years so obviously gutted.

It's a difficult at the best of times and must be particularly hard with everything going on. I do feel for you and hope it's under control soon. How long has this flare lasted? Have you been in touch with your IBD team? I've also been told that sometimes the fluctuating hormones can cause a short flare, so maybe when the baby is having a growth spurt

It's very early, have been bleeding for about a week. I contacted the IBD team yesterday and midwife today, I'm sure they will get back to me soon.
