Clicked too quickly then, ive been taking 150g of Asprin daily (on an evening) like requested by my consultant. I also take Pregnacare vitamin too. Is it safe to take both? Ive read lots of mixed messages online now! 🙁

I am. I'm taking 75mg aspirin as advised by my consultant.

Megan2018 · 20/04/2020 20:32

I took aspirin and my supplement (different brand). I can’t understand what the issue could be?

Rainbow714 · 20/04/2020 20:35

I just read that Pregnacare has Vitamin K in which shouldnt be taking with blood thiners ie Asprin. Ive never heard of this before and ive been taking both since 12 weeks. Wondered anybody else heard of this.

I should add that I was told to take the 75mg aspirin by my consultant along with a pregnancy folic acid/multi vit. She didn't advise me to stay away from any particular brand. When I told my GP and Midwife what I was taking they both didn't say anything.

Bumbers · 20/04/2020 20:37

I'm taking both! Havent heard any advice to the contrary...

Rainbow714 · 20/04/2020 20:41

This makes me feel better thank you all. Is it Pregnacare you take or a different brand? I chose that vitamin has it had everything in..x

Aly92 · 20/04/2020 20:42

*wondering. And I take pregnacare

loubert89 · 20/04/2020 20:43

I take both and midwife has never questioned it.

Peachy200 · 20/04/2020 20:51

I take 150mg aspirin and pregnacare.
I remember telling my midwife I was taking pregnacare during the same appointment that she advised me to take aspirin and she never mentioned anything.
I’ve also spoken to a consultant who double checked that I was taking aspirin and she never mentioned avoiding any vitamins either.

MrsMyreton · 20/04/2020 20:51

I've never heard of this OP - I'm taking 75mg of aspirin and pregnacare. I mentioned that I was taking both at my consultant appointment (as it came up due to something else) but they never mentioned any issues.

Aria2015 · 20/04/2020 21:03

I take both I've mentioned it to the midwife and consultant and neither said anything so I'm hoping it's no issue.

triedandtestedteacher · 20/04/2020 21:45

I'm taking both

Rainbow714 · 20/04/2020 21:46

Thank you so much, feeling much more relaxed now will continue to take both. 😀

Hi i take 150mg of aspirin daily too (for low papp a). Also taking pregnacare. I panicked when I read about not to take them off your on blood thinners so phoned my GP. He said that 150mg is such a small dose that it makes no difference. You shouldn't be taking both if you were on a much, much higher dose (for heart conditions etc.)

Rainbow714 · 21/04/2020 07:45

Thank you for the advice, pregnancy is such a worrying time isnt it x

I think the vitamin k (and c for completeness) relates to warfarin rather than aspirin - they both change how quickly your body processing the warfarin which impacts on how thin or thick your blood is. It is a particular problem for warfarin as there is such a narrow window of dosing from where it is therapeutic slightly above or below is and it can cause clots or bleeds.
I don't believe that aspirin has the same sensitivity to vitamin k and if it does it is less of a problem because it has a wider dosing range so small variations in the amount of aspirin in your blood won't change the desired effect.
I hope that helps explain the warning label. One of my parents is a warfarin user and they got a list of otc medications/supplements /foods to avoid because of how sensitive it is but not when they were on aspirin.

Rainbow714 · 21/04/2020 20:35

Thank you for explaining it, it does explain the warning.
