Hi everyone. I am 5+5 and haven’t really had symptoms yet, but for the last hour or so I have had a sharpish pain in the lower left hand side of my abdomen. Is this something I should worry about?

I had that around 7 weeks and was in agony. I could barely move or stand up straight.
Ended up going to hospital in the middle of the night.
Had a scan the next day and apparently the pain was where I had ovulated from and I had a functioning cyst in my Fallopian tube. There is a fancy name for it but I don't know what it is 😝
The cyst produces hormones that give you a healthy pregnancy. Most women don't have any bother with it, but some do, like I did where it gave me serious grief for about two weeks.
Baby was fine and not ectopic thankfully!
Now 17 weeks and all going well so far 😁
I'm sure you will be fine, it could just be something simple like ligament pains, as your uterus expands, but if you end up in serious pain then do go to the hospital to get yourself checked!
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi I just wanted to ask because I had really bad pain for nearly two hours on my right side . The pain/ cramping has gone but just feel tender on my right pelvis. I rang a midwife who said the hospital would call back but haven’t yet. and to go in if the pain starts again but it hasn’t not sure what to do. Could you tell me what exactly they did when you went in please

Shmabel · 20/04/2020 20:06

Two of my friends recently had this exact thing. Both pregnancies are absolutely fine but both went to the hospital to get checked out. It's probably nothing but if it's bad pain, you need to rule out ectopic. I would definitely contact EPU to be on the safe side. Hopefully (and most likely) it's nothing and you can put your mind at rest.

@Aly92 both my friends had a transvaginal scan to check their babies implanted in the normal place. If you haven't had one before, I've had plenty (for ivf) and they're not bad at all.

I’ve had them because of previous mc I rang them in the morning but they haven’t got back to me yet. Prob ring them again in morning

I had quite bad left sided pain until about 9 weeks. They ruled out ectopic and I now have a 7 week old. Personally I think it may have been the cyst that you get from getti g pregnant. Csbt remember the name now

Rubyroost · 20/04/2020 20:53

@lockdownpregmancy Yes!! I had the same thing.

yestonodressyet · 20/04/2020 20:59

I had the same thing, called midwife helpline they said take paracetamol and call back if it gets worse, it easer and now 17wks. I put it down to hormones, implantation and things starting to stretch and shift a bit. Keep an eye out for any shoulder tip pain but try not to worry pregnancy is full of random pains that make you panic for no reason!

@Aly92 I had to go into a&e and they took bloods and a urine sample and then sent me home (it was around 1am).
They said they had sent my info to EPU and they would be in touch in the morning to sort me out a scan to make sure everything was ok.
They called me at 7.30am the next day and I was scanned in the afternoon! They were brilliant to be fair!

Aly92 · 20/04/2020 21:29

When you went in we’re you still having pain? She said to only go in if the pain comes again and it hasn’t. Just tender on the right pelvis. Thank you for sharing your experience reading the replies makes me feel better. I had cysts with my daughter but never any real pain

Aly92 · 20/04/2020 21:32

Today 21:31 Aly92

They were supposed to ring me sometime today but it’s not happened . I’ve literally not been on the phone to anyone all day just in case. Since the pain has stopped not sure if I should just wait it out or ring again

If the pain has stopped @Aly92 then I would leave it for now. I try and avoid doctors and hospitals at all costs! Especially with the current pandemic!
If the pain returns and it's really bad then go back and demand a scan to make sure everything is ok.
If it's so bad you can't get to the hospital then call 999.
Glad you are starting to feel better though 😁
