Firm bump and wind like pain

I'm 38+5 and probably for the last 24 hours my bump has been really firm. I've had a few tightenings and also a few feelings of pressure some like menstrual cramps but mostly more like wind (both trapped and kinda like you need to release but are holding it) I'm a little dairy intolerant so used to some of this discomfort but the last few days it's got more intense and isn't always wind. I have had normal baby movements all week, except for yesterday when he was a little quieter, was on the fence of calling the maternity unit, but managed to feel a few wiggles in the bath so settled my mind as I have a midwife appointment in an hour and a half!

Just wondered if anyone had had this near the end? Seen so many stories of women having painless contractions that they dismissed as something else! I'm booked in to be induced on wednesday but as visiting rules are really harsh we're hoping little one makes an earlier entrance to the world as I dont fancy being stuck in for a week with absolutely no visitors!

As said above I do have a midwife appointment shortly so not asking instead of seeking professional advice but more out of curiosity of other peoples experiences, as its my first baby it's kind of frustrating that no one can tell you exactly what it will feel like or how labour will start! 🤦‍♀️

Hi,

It's called braxton hicks, some people get them quite early (mine started around 22 weeks), some later in pregnancy and then others don't get them at all.
