HEARING HEARTBEAT AT 8 WEEKS, COULD I BE FURTHER?

Hi guys, iv just bought a baby doppler, that says it can pick up heart beats from 12 weeks, and in some cases 10 weeks. Iv just used the doppler, and could hear my baby. As far as I know, Im 8+5, although I wasnt quite sure of my dates when I went to the drs about being pregnant. So, could this mean im further on than I thought?

Also, the booklet says the heartbeat should be between 120-160 bp minute, but i only counted 70-ish. Could it be that it was my placenta? Or is this normal, or should I panic?

thats probably your heartbeat, not the babies, or yes the blood flow through the placenta

sparklygothkat · 14/09/2007 17:30

Thats your heartbeat

mumzyof2 · 14/09/2007 17:40

All the way down there?

Your blood does pump all the way around your body!!

mumzyof2 · 14/09/2007 17:43

Yep, of course, but when I held it on my pulse points, I couldnt hear anything. Is there no way its my baby?

Thats definately your heartbeat.

I heard my baby at 10 weeks but it was quite faint and it took a while to find.

sparklygothkat · 14/09/2007 17:48

On wednesday I went to be monitored at the hospital (am 32 weeks) and at one point it picked up my heartbeat, instead of the baby's

BetsyBoop · 14/09/2007 17:58

definitely your heartbeat.

try not to stress too much even if you can't find it at 10 or 12weeks - both times I was 14wks before I could find it & it took quite a while

Most midwives don't even try until about 16wks as it is often hard to find (and they have a lot more practice than us) and only stresses the pg women out when they can't

NotAnOtter · 14/09/2007 17:59

i found heartbeat at 8 weeks - it was deffo a baby one

NotAnOtter · 14/09/2007 18:00

it took a while to find at that stage but i managed and did it everyday
the man that sold me the test said some women managed it around that time depending on padding

NotAnOtter · 14/09/2007 18:00

it was DopplerMike BTW anyone know him - SUCH a nice bloke

becklespeckle · 14/09/2007 18:03

Given the speed of the HB I would say it is definitely yours but I would not panic as it can be difficult to pick up HB even if you are further along.
My MW struggled at 16 weeks as baby kept moving away from doppler - plenty of room to hide in there early on!

beansprout · 14/09/2007 18:05

Tbh, unless there was a good reason for it (whatever that might be), I wouldn't use one of these as I think they can cause a lot of anxiety.

saralou · 14/09/2007 18:09

your aorta runs down in that direction, and is the big main artery supplying your body with blood, it was definitely your heartbeat at 70 bpm

mumzyof2 · 14/09/2007 18:39

Oh, poor me, my eyes watered when I heard it, v nearly cried...over my own eart beat! Such a simpleton.

OP posts:
becklespeckle · 14/09/2007 19:37

Not a simpleton! If MWs struggle then what hope do ordinary peeps like us have? Give it a couple of weeks and hopefully you'll find baby easily!

NotAnOtter · 14/09/2007 19:39

oh did not read that about bpm
my babies was much quicker
did it on my friend too

mumzyof2 · 15/09/2007 12:59

Notanotter - Were you both 8 weeks though?

preggersagain · 15/09/2007 13:04

i found the heartbeat v early this time (i am a midwife though so have experience) then went for a scan and found out it was 2 beans!! no wonder i always found it easy- they were taking it in turns!

70bpm is yours, baby sounds like a faint galloping noise!

lulumama · 15/09/2007 14:14

this is why i don't like dopplers... they seem to create more upset and panic than they eradicate.

for something that is supposed to put your mind at ease, they seem to do the opposite !!

70 beats is you.

you are very early on, MWs don;t try to get it until 16 weeks on the whole, when the uterus has risen out of the pelvis and it is easier to find
