My DD is 2 weeks old her cord stump is infected doctor prescribed fusidic acid over the phone but hasn't seen her. But as you can see there is a little extra bit he said not to worry but as he hasn't seen it I'm a little sceptical ( I know I'm not medically trained but still worried).

Will this disappear with the antibiotics? is it normal as looks kinda like a vessel to me :(

I am not a midwife but am medically trained and from the picture you have posted that little bit that you describe as looking like a vessel appears to be an area of overgranulation (where the body goes a bit overboard in trying to heal itself). My nephew had it on his cord when born too. Nothing major to worry about, if the fusidic acid doesn’t help it improve speak to the GP n they may either prescribe an alternative topical steroid or perhaps use silver nitrate on the area. Obviously this is my opinion based on picture, so if it changes at all please don’t hesitate it getting it checked out Smile

Mine had something similar too, we used to put salt on it.

@MLP123 Thank you for replying, from looking on the internet that's what I started thinking it was too. The only thing that was confusing me was how skinny it is and all the pictures I've seen look more rounded. She has 5 days of the fusidic acid so I'll see how she gets on x

@a12345b did it help, how has it healed?

We kept doing it , eventually the extra bit dried up and fell off.
