Ok I’m 5 weeks pregnant
I’m over weight and was dieting before I found out I was pregnant, I haven’t been eating a lot but I’m putting on weight I have put on 5 pounds in 2 weeks 😧 can I lower my calories to 1200?

I'm 26 weeks pregnant, I've gained 6lbs but all that was after 20 weeks. I don't diet but I do write down my calories.
Until I was about 12 weeks I was having about 1600 cals a day, bow I have about 1800 cals a day.

1200 cals is far too low though I think. First trimester it'll be down to whatever you can eat (if you get nausea or sickness) but in second trimester you'll need more calories than that.

Please don't lower your calorie intake like that - something will give. A pregnant woman should never drop below 1700 cal a day.

Thank you, I was eating 1200 a day and lost over 2 stone, I will eat 1600
I know it’s not pregnancy making me gain it’s me lol lock down Eating, but I worked hard to lose 2 stone, don’t what to put it all back on x

Also please don't diet full stop now you're pregnant. Watching what you eat and exercising are great but not 'diets'. Your midwife can refer you to slimming world at booking if you're concerned.

@Helpthisgirl I was lucky as I competely went off all sweet stuff (even now I can't even smell chocolate) so that really helped.

I lost weight in the first trimester, so I'm still not at my pre-pregnancy weight yet. I'm hoping to put on no more than 15lbs this pregnancy (I'm a size 12, sometimes 14)

I have to disagree with eventhecathasapenis - about 1700 calories a day. A standard day for me pre-pregnancy was around 1200-1300 calories and while I am not counting at the moment, I know it hasn't change that much. I am fairly small & slim, but in none of my conversations with midwives where diet was mentioned did they say anything about a minimum amount of calories per day.
