Is it bad to eat olives every day?

This sounds ridiculous but I've become obsessed with eating olives and it's the only thing that stops my morning sickness as soon as I eat them, I feel less sick through out the day but feel like I shouldn't be eating them every day especially in the numbers that I eat them. Help :( my appetite is so bad you could fight me but can't get me to eat something if I don't want it. I do eat other things like today I had toast, I could stomach some pasta yesterday but I can't get through the day without eating olives!

There are a lot less healthy things that you could eat. Olives are fine, your body is telling you what to eat so listen to it and enjoy!

It's probably the salt.... a lot of people turn to salty snacks in the first trimester as it's the only thing they can face due to morning sickness.
It was salt and vinegar crisps for me which is far less healthy!
Just eat whatever you can manage and drink plenty fluids so you're not dehydrated.

Olives are fab. Good fats and lots of nutrients. Go ahead. Pasta with butter and black olives was my go to a few weeks ago when I had pregnancy nausea/food aversions.

I too was going to suggest its either the high salt or high fat content. Have you tried other salty foods like capers, anchovies, gherkins, pickles? How many are you eating? have you thought of making a tapenade for toast, but gradually reducing the amount of olives and replacing with dried tomato in the mix, artichokes, feta etc?

As the previous poster said, if you are eating a great deal of salty foods, you need to up your fluid intake even more. 1st wee of the day can be yellow, but throughout the day should be clear or very pale yellow. If its darker, then your are dehydrated.

@Eloera I'm loving the sound of gherkins. Luckily my urine is clear so I'd like to think I'm staying hydrated. Cheese and olives are the two things I can keep eating without getting bored but thank you for the alternative options I might give them a go. I'm usually not a fussy eater and it's been an absolute nightmare trying to adjust to hardly wanting to eat. It makes me frustrated because every option I have in front of me and around me is just putting me off and making me feel sick to my stomach

At least its food you are eating. Not chalk, hair, coal, crayons or other non-food items Grin

I think i've been eating olives every day for most of my life :)
I think as long as you are not eating loads in salty brine you should be fine.

Honestly in the first trimester you simply do what you can to get through, so if it's olives then so be it, there's no point in fighting your bodies urge to eat them and eating olives is far better than eating nothings try not to worry, I lived on crisps for about a week with my first pregnancy and she turned out ok Smile xx

When I was pregnant with my DD I ate olives and cheese for breakfast for weeks. I just couldn't get enough of them. There's worse things to crave : )

MsChatterbox · 18/04/2020 15:33

Well, I lived off monster munch in the first trimester. You're fine 😊

Pineappletree33 · 18/04/2020 15:41

I can’t see any harm in eating lots of olives.
I’m on my 4th pregnancy (hopefully second baby) and I can’t get enough salty stuff into me, I’ve been the same in each.

LH1987 · 18/04/2020 15:46

Only if you are serving them in very strong martinis Grin

I had a craving for olives with my first and horrendous sickness for 9 months I was convinced it was my need for salt.
Ds was born at 39+5 and was a healthy 9lb 4. No ill effects of my olive craving!
