Weight gain at 26 weeks

Hi all, I'm currently 26 weeks pregnant and started this pregnancy about a stone over my 'happy weight' putting me at a size 12 (sometimes 14).

Last week I weighed myself and had put on 4lbs, which I was happy with as I've made an effort to eat very healthily.

Just weighed myself this morning (a week later) and I've gained 3lb in a week Shock

So that's 7lbs in total in such a short space of time? I'm getting paranoid because online it says any more than 2lbs in a week can be a sign of pre-eclampsis. I am short of breath too Sad

Does this weight gain sound normal? My midwife appointments are all over the phone now so not having the usual checks.

I assume some of the weight gain is baby/water/placenta but 3lbs in a week, given that I've eaten well seems too much?

Hi,

Are you able to exercise much during lockdown?
I lost weight my entire pregnancy but then had to go on bedrest at around 26 weeks and I piled the pounds VERY fast. Could lockdown be having an affect?

@Sunshineeeee I'm walking for an hour each day, every day. Which is what I was doing pre-pregnancy.
I'm eating 1800-2000 cals a day and it's all healthy foods. Not snacking on any junk at all.

It just seemed like gaining 4lbs in 25 weeks was slow and ok, but 3lbs in the last week just seems a lot.

The exact number on the scale depends on so many things.. time of day/ how hydrated you are/when you last had a poo Grin so I really wouldn't out too much emphasis on each individual reading.

7lb over 26 weeks really doesn't sound like much to me. I'm sure I've put on more and I'm 24 weeks.

My weight didn’t increase slowly like you would think . I went weeks with no weight gain and sometimes I would pile on the pounds 🤷‍♀️! Was it what I ate or water retention ? I don’t know!!!

My weight gain breakdown :

Weeks 4-14: 5kilo ( oops 🙊 😬)
Weeks 14-16 : Nothing
Weeks 16-20 : 5 kilo ( also wtf? ! Lol)
weeks 20-28: 6 kilo
Weeks 28-37 (gave birth ): no weight gain 🤷‍♀️

Baby was growing perfectly the whole time which is what is most important .

After birth : 7 kilo up from starting weight

Thank you everyone for your replies, I'm just going to keep monitoring my weight and hope for the best!
Might have a look into Slimming World as I've read midwives approve Smile

You will gain weight more quickly as pregnancy progresses. I know you said you were about a stone over your ideal but what was your BMI pre pregnancy? If your BMI was fine and your diet is fine, do you actually need to monitor your weight? I would find it stressful and we've all already got enough to be stressed about being pregnant at this time! Can you just let your midwife weigh you when she needs to and then put it out of your mind?

I'm terrible and i dont even weigh myself because it's a source of stress for me. My BMI was normal before pregnancy, healthy weight and size 8/10. I always pile on loads of weight when I'm pregnant despite exercising and eating healthy. I'm talking about 3 stones and maybe more ( I dont know because I've always got to a stage where I stopped weighing myself due to being annoyed at the scales) But then ive always managed to lose it all after through diet and exercise. So I try not to worry about it too much about it. I have to admit it's easier said than done but not weighing myself helps me not obsess about it.

I dare not even weigh myself! I'm sure that's not very responsible but I know I've piled weight on (started at size 8 so not too worried). I don't think it's sounds like you've put a lot on. I know I've put more on without weighing myself. I know it's the speed you're concerned about but with the overall weight gain not being high, I wouldn't worry too much unless you continue to put on several pounds per week.

I'm 25+5 and my shortness of breath can be terrible! It's really surprised me how bad it is actually. I wasn't expecting it. I've looked into it and it seems normal
