Hospital want to induce me this Friday (38+0) - help!

I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes at 36+0 weeks and am now 37+5. I've been monitoring my blood sugar levels at home since the diagnosis and have managed to get them under control.

At my 36 week scan the baby's weight was estimated at 7lbs 1oz and the head circumference was 35.5cm (97th centile), so the baby is already on the large side because of the GD.

My midwife rang this morning to ask how everything is going and then asked what my thoughts were on the birth. I said I was confused over whether to go for an induction or c-section due to the size of the baby's head, so she went to speak to the consultant to get his thoughts.

She rang me back 10 minutes later and said the consultant thinks an induction is the best option and that they could get me in this Friday to start the process. I was quite shocked as the phone call began as a routine chat about GD and ended with the possibility of giving birth in two days' time.

The midwife explained that the baby will just keep on growing from here on in, so it's better to induce sooner rather than later for a vaginal delivery before they get too big. She also said that if I did go for a c-section then that could be done at 39 weeks.

I said I'd think everything through and get back to her, but I'm so confused now. Should I take their advice and go in this Friday, wait another week (when I'll be 39+0) or two (when I'll be 40+0) to be induced, or ask for a c-section?

My head is spinning - if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

If my doula can't be there when I give birth to DC2 I want a mumsnet thread with you lot especially Islay Grin

OP based on your updates I had a feeling it wouldn't take too long so here's hoping you already have your baby in your arms or will do very soon!

Parkandride · 24/04/2020 20:21

I know nothing about GD but I'm cheering you on, hopefully baby may even be here now

NameChange30 · 25/04/2020 08:14

Morning OP, hoping all is well - looking forward to an update!

Dyra · 25/04/2020 08:46

Morning @worried88. Hoping your labour went well, and that you're not too exhausted this morning.

Delbelleber · 25/04/2020 10:04

Looking forward to the next update Smile

Blackbear19 · 25/04/2020 10:24

How are things going Worried. Have you got your baby in your arms yet?

IslayBrigid · 25/04/2020 12:44

Hahah @NameChange30 thank you! I love this stuff. Maybe I should retrain as a doula haha. I would also like to recreate this if I have to do it alone prior to active labour or without a doula! Everyone on this thread is so lovely 😍 💕

How are you going @worried88 ? Silence is promising. Hope you have baby in your arms xx

BrooHaHa · 26/04/2020 17:05

Just to say, I hope all is OK.

fool11 · 28/04/2020 07:24

Hi @worried88..hope you and your baby are well. Based on your recent experience would you still get induced if you could turn the time and make your choice again or would you opt for a C section?

NameChange30 · 28/04/2020 07:40

Please don't leave us hanging @worried88!

IslayBrigid · 28/04/2020 10:55

Yes agree, starting to actually be a little worried! Hope you are all good @worried88 xx

Delbelleber · 28/04/2020 11:03

Flowers hope all is well

Dyra · 28/04/2020 11:06

Little concerned here too. Hoping you and baby are doing well at home by now.

Hairyfairy01 · 28/04/2020 12:54

Hope you are ok

MisssC3025 · 28/04/2020 14:21

Just read through this post I do hope all is well with you and baby and you're just so busy admiring their little face 😍. I'm being induced in 3 weeks time! Would love to know the experience.

Xx

After all the posts this lady made over the last few weeks, it’s a real shame she didn’t come back to update. I can only imagine the worst, but I really hope not Sad Fingers crossed for her.

NameChange30 · 29/04/2020 18:11

If I wasn't slightly worried I would be annoyed!

Delbelleber · 29/04/2020 18:12

@worried88 we are all thinking of you and hoping for the best. Please let us know. Flowers

IslayBrigid · 29/04/2020 21:15

I know! I hope OP and baby are ok! Confused Flowers

BrooHaHa · 29/04/2020 21:38

I imagine that, given the OP's posting history, she'd have told us if all was well (if/when she returned to Mumsnet). If something has gone badly awry, I don't think we can expect her to come back here. Maybe we should leave it now? All the @ tags may well be sending her email alerts and, if something has gone badly wrong, I'm sure she doesn't need that.

bluemoon2468 · 30/04/2020 08:25

@NameChange30 annoyed?! Because she's had her baby and hasn't come online to tell a group of strangers? There's a small chance something has gone wrong, but she's probably just enjoying/coping with the first week of motherhood without thinking about mumsnet!
