Is anyone else waiting for CVS or amnio results?

I had a CVS test on Tuesday following a high risk nuchal result last Thursday. The scan itself was fine with a nuchal fold of 1.9 which I understand is in the realms of normal but my bloods came back with a 1:8 risk of Edwards/Patau syndromes and 1:24 for Downs syndrome and that brought my combined result to 1:89 for Downs and 1:50 for Edwards and Patau. I am trying my very best to stay positive but feel so protective of the little baby I saw jumping around on the scan. My DH has been waiting on me hand and foot since Tuesday and taking care of our lovely DS who is keeping me smiling. Just keeping everything crossed for an answer before the weekend.......anyone out there going through the same thing?

I am awaiting final results (all the obscure conditions), but at least I had the preliminary fast-but-not-100%-reliable-results for common conditions already (all clear).

I guess I'm not jumpy because there is NOTHING I can do to change what happens next. But it's easier said than done to think like that... for me, the actual experience of amnio and soreness for days afterwards was much worse than the waiting. I am blotting out the fact that the amnio might still cause a miscarriage. I still have the 20 wk scan to pass, then maybe I'll sort of relax and assume it's probably all ok.

Good luck. I guess you've thought thru already how you might want to deal with a 'bad' result?

Hi escondida, so pleased that you have had your fast results, for what it's worth my consultant told me that if the first ones come through clear it is highly unlikely that the final result will show anything.

In answer to you question, if the result shows Edwards or Patau syndrome we have definately decided to have a termination (even typing it makes me feel ill) as they are both incompatible with life.

The risk of miscarriage following CVS at the hospital where we had it done is 2% so that's really playing on my mind but I feel we made the right decision for us in having it done.

Good Luck with your final results and the 20 week scan!

Hi MrsLurkalot,
I went through this a month ago - had an OSCAR screening and came back 1:89 high risk Downs etc. I had the CVS the next day - and then had to wait 3.5 weeks for the final results. Apparently my cultures were "slow growers" We were on holiday most of that time and it was the longest three weeks of our lives.
We finally got the results and all was clear -and we were told to relax and enjoy the rest of the pregnancy. I am hoping the rest of it will be relatively normal now - this is our first and I am quite paranoid now!
Also - just to let you know - the Nuchal measurement was fine - it was the bloods which brought us down to 1:89, and I have read that if its the bloods side there is more chance of it being an error. Not sure how true that is. Anyway - hang in there, I know it is terrible waiting, and fingers crossed it will all be ok.

Thankyou Bristolrabbit, so glad your results were OK and very interesting that you were in a very similar situation to us. The hospital rang at 4.30pm to tell us that there is no sign on Downs, Edwards or Patau, and that we are expecting a little girl. To say to are relieved is an understatement. Of course we still have to wait for the final results but we will cross that bridge when we come to it. It's our 5th wedding anniversary so we have decided to go out and celebrate (with lemonade in my case!).
