We are all feeling more worried and tense than usual - I am sure you will be fine - please let us know when you have the results and have seen your beautiful healthy baby

I had mine last week and had to go on my own, I was also really nervous before going. For me, the worst bit was having to leave my husband in the car - I just felt really sad for him that he wasn't going to get to see the baby too. At my hospital, we have to wait in the car until we are telephoned to say to come in, so when I got to the waiting room I was only waiting for about 3 minutes which was good. The scan itself was fine, it was a little nerve wracking of course but thankfully all was well. The lady scanning me let me know what bits she was looking at, but then she would go quiet for (what seemed like!) ages at a time, but this was only so she could have a good look, take measurements etc. She didn't really 'confirm' that all was well as she went along, which might have been a bit more reassuring, but she told me at the end that all looked absolutely fine, and presumably if any bit hadn't been ok she would have said while she was still looking at that bit, if that makes sense. I also got my two pictures for free - I'm not sure if this is because baby was being awkward so the pictures weren't that good or to minimise the time you are in the unit (i.e. hanging around the desk waiting to pay). Once she was finished scanning, I was back into the waiting room for about one minute while she printed the report and then I was done. I felt so much more relaxed afterwards and it was actually lovely having a longer scan because it was longer to look at baby. Good luck, let us know how you get on Smile

It's a very nerve-wracking scan. I am nervous for mine in a few weeks- they're looking for some seriously scary conditions. It's normal to be nervous. That said, remember that the individual odds of your baby having any of those conditions are very slim.

Mucklowe · 14/04/2020 15:13

Mine is on Thursday and I'm a bit nervous!

BrooHaHa · 14/04/2020 15:14

I find it also helps to remember that the scan itself won't change anything- if there's a problem, it's already there. You're just learning more about the situation.

Also, can you WhatsApp your partner during?

CleverQuacks · 14/04/2020 16:06

I have mine on Friday and I am convinced they will find something wrong. I can’t stop worrying. Doesn’t help that I am bored at home so have nothing to distract me from the worried thoughts.

I hope yours goes well. I am sure you will be fin

Colouringinbook · 14/04/2020 17:36

Good luck OP! Just expect it to take a while and the sonographer to be checking absolutely everything before confirming anything. It felt like the longest wait.

Milnes94 · 14/04/2020 17:50

Hey all, may i join? I have the big anomoly/anatomy scan and absolutely terrified of something being wrong. Iv had my 12 weeks scan and also a 17 week scan and the sonographer said all was well and baby appears happy but i cant help thinking of what could change between now and then and when they go in depth will something show up🙈 sorry im a bag of nerves and also first baby! Good luck to you all xx

Milnes94 · 16/04/2020 09:21

Hi @Cheyanne101, i was terrible on the run up to mine. Google was not my friend, i read alsorts of horror stories online. Try and think positive, somebody said to me that mostly people only post negative stories online because they need advice and most scans actually go smoothly. Whens your scan?

Cheyanne101 · 16/04/2020 09:31

@Milnes94 hey, my scan is the 26th of may and ill be just over 23 weeks i think! Yeah i know its best to try and be positive 🙈 hopefully all will be well. Is the scanning machine the same as the 12 week one?

MichelleOR84 · 16/04/2020 09:37

I was beyond nervous for mine . I was shaking so much they couldn’t start the scan initially. They calmed me down though 😅. There were two ladies there and both were so nice . It’s nerve wracking though as it’s so long and serious . They go over every little body part and don’t say a word. It’s perfectly normal to be nervous though . Everyone goes through it and remember the chances are everything will be fine . Good luck and be strong ☺️

Milnes94 · 16/04/2020 10:16

Yes same scan as the 12 week just in much more detail, we got lots of lovely pictures too which was nice rather than the usual same image multiple times

Mine is on Monday and I'm petrified. We had a 16 week private scan because I was too impatient/anxious to wait behween 12 and 20. But I'm glad we did have it now that my husband can't come with me - I'm gutted that he can't see his baby, and also dreading going it alone in case they find a problem. I'm so glad everyone that's had theirs this week have gone well and just hope mine is the same. I won't sleep on Sunday night! Thank goodness it's at 9am...
