Anyone moved their antenatal care from the UK to Australia?

Hi there

Looking to see if anyone has started their antenatal care in the UK and then moved to Australia half way through?

I’m currently 21+4 and moving home to Australia in 3 weeks.

Obviously with everything going on things might change with the process but I’d love to hear from anyone that has done this previously and what steps you took to make it and easy / smooth transition.

Hey hey! I haven't done this, in fairness, but I had my first baby in the UK and will be having my second baby here. I'm 25 weeks, so only a little ahead of you. The system probably varies massively by state though, where will you be? I'm in Melbourne.

Congrats on your second!

I’m going to be in Perth

And to you! Yeah, haven't a clue about Perth. General advice would be to choose your hospital asap and email them, or get someone local to phone them if email doesn't work. Then make sure you've got all possible info in your yellow (red?) book and ask your current midwife team for an email contact in case you need more from them.

In other news, have a good plan for the quarantine! Some people have really suffered with the isolation. Will you be with someone?

Final thought: a lot of people go private for maternity stuff here, but my public hospital is fantastic and I don't see the point at all.

Thanks so much for the advise!

That’s a great idea to email my local hospital in Perth - will make sure I do that and see if they need anything specific. I’ve got my full notes in my green (😊) folder all thats helps but having the email contact for them over here too is a good idea.

Yes quarantine will be with my partner but not looking forward to it at all but just one of those things.

How is your second pregnancy going? Do you know the sex?

Green! Of course... thinking about it, there's no good reason why you can't set up your first appointment now really. It might even be a phone call while in quarantine. That would kill 20 minutes or so at least!

Pregnancy is fine, thank you, although I was absolutely exhausted for the first 16 or so weeks. Online yoga classes are a godsend though! I might be in danger of enjoying the lockdown Hmm

How are you feeling about the move? I think Western Australia's probably one of the best places to be right now!

Oh, and yes, we know - having another boy! Very excited, not least because I'm cheap and don't want to buy new clothes Grin
