Hi, this is my first pregnancy but I am a worrier! I'm 16 weeks and I still don't really look pregnant I just look bloated/fat. I got a message from a family member saying they knew someone due the same day as me and there bump was huge so surprised I don't look pregnant yet which has really got me panicking that there's something wrong. I'm about a size 10 not super slim or anything and 5ft 3 should I be worried did anyone else have small bumps?

Everyone is different, I had no noticeable bump until 28-30 weeks. Ignore that rude relative, why would you panic over something random said like that when your midwives/doctor are happy with your progress so far, unless they have mentioned any medical concerns at appointments?

Daisysandviolets · 14/04/2020 12:26

Ah that makes me feel better, thank you! no my first midwife appointment is Thursday but my last scan was fine but I was only 11+ 5 but they were happy with everything! I just don't understand why people feel the need to comment on people's bumps as it just causes so much worry, I've become obsessed by it now Confused

I told work at 20 weeks, no one had a clue I was pregnant. I would say I got a slight bump around 20wks, but even then I would wake up with a flat stomach (also a size 10). Please try not to compare yourself, we're all different sizes and body shapes.

Birdy1991 · 14/04/2020 12:30

It’s still early for a bump. My bump only really started showing at around 20 weeks and then not much. nearly 25 now and it’s only just become very obvious!

RhymingRabbit3 · 14/04/2020 12:33

Totally normal. I didn't have a bump until at least 20 weeks with my first and it was more like 30 weeks before it was noticeable to people who didn't know I wad pregnant.

ReturnofSaturn · 14/04/2020 12:35

I didn't have anything until over 20 weeks.
I never really got a big bump, it was always small. But my body snapped right back to normal after birth.

And baby was 8 pounds.

ReturnofSaturn · 14/04/2020 12:36

I got comments too. People couldn't believe how far along I actually was. Grin

Chanel05 · 14/04/2020 12:44

I'm 18 weeks and hardly have any bump either. My waist (was) a size 4/6 before pregnancy so I feel like it would be weird if I had got noticeable quickly.

Foggymist · 14/04/2020 12:47

I have no idea why people do it, they don't think before they speak. My charming mil was so appalled by my small bump at 34 weeks (baby born at 37 weeks weighing 7lbs 7) that she said it wasn't normal to have such a small bump so far along and they're had to be something wrong Hmm Helpful! I just said doctors have said everything is fine so drop it.

Once medical professionals are happy with the size etc don't worry about other people's opinions.

MichelleOR84 · 14/04/2020 12:49

Here is my bump progression! Week 12, 16 and 20 !

I just looked bigger until around 20 weeks when my bump finally started to form .

ChainsawBear · 14/04/2020 12:54

Most people in their first pregnancy don't look noticeably pregnant as opposed to just having put on a few pounds until well after 20 weeks. Some women go to full term without ever really having had a "bump", especially tall athletic women. OTOH women who have been pregnant before often show earlier just because the muscles etc have been stretched before. It's meaningless for women to compare how bumps look, especially when they are different sizes/builds/first or subsequent pregnancy.

Bottom line, bump appearance means precisely nothing. I've literally been told mine looks really big and looks really small on the same day in the same clothes.

Ang3113 · 14/04/2020 12:55

I'm 20 weeks with my first and I don't have a bump yet.

Mucklowe · 14/04/2020 13:16

I'm 20 weeks and still don't look pg if I duck my tummy in!

Mucklowe · 14/04/2020 13:17

Suck, not duck!!

LittleBoyJuly2020 · 14/04/2020 13:19

I'm 25 weeks and could still hide my 'bump' easily if I tried. It's literally only been this week where I've had a hint of a bump.
It's not my first baby either!

Sakura54 · 14/04/2020 13:41

Im also 5ft 3. A lot of people saw me when I was 5/6 months and no one could see a bump as I wore loose tops. When I had DS, I looked about 5 months pregnant! This time, I’m nearly 12 weeks and flat stomach still.

roarfeckingroar · 14/04/2020 13:47

I have a slight bump at 14+2 that you can see if I'm wearing something tight, but my stomach was a size 6/8 and flat beforehand so it seems really obvious to me and DP. All are different, please don't worry !

Chanel05 · 14/04/2020 14:36

This is me at 18 weeks today.

No bump yet
BarbaraGordon · 14/04/2020 14:42

I'm the same size as you and didn't have a bump at 16 weeks. Now 19 weeks and have a slight bump, but anyone who didn't already know me and what size I normally am would have no idea I'm pregnant. Also first pregnancy.

Daisysandviolets · 16/04/2020 06:49

Thanks for for all your posts, this has made me feel much better! Got my first midwife appointment today so hopefully they will hear the baby's heartbeat! I feel really lucky that my mid wife appointment is still going ahead, as anyone else had any problems?
