Total loss of appetite

Hi all I’m about 7 weeks. After spending all of last week feeling horribly nauseous all day every day I have now completely gone off food. I’m having to force myself to eat bits of fruit or an egg. Absolutely nothing appeals and I don’t feel hungry. I’m usually someone that absolutely loves cooking and eating! Is this normal? How long will it last?

I was the same, very little appetite (plus sickness) until about week 14. After that the sickness stopped and appetite gradually improved, but I still eat less than I did pre-pregnancy.

Yes this was me! I wouldn’t worry providing you are able to drink fluids and nibble on something. My nausea varied every day so some days I barely ate anything and other days could manage small meals. I wasn’t interested in any food though and just had to eat when I could. Mine lasted until around 12/13 weeks, it’s really only been the past week I’ve started noticing I’m more into eating/thinking about what I’m eating but even then I’m not loving food like I used to. I look forward for that day!

I was like this last pregnancy and this one. IMO it's worse than the nausea because you know you need to eat but can't bring yourself to. Fortunately it passed for me both times, earlier second time (I'm 12 weeks and MOST days I can stomach stuff although I have the odd day I'm not interested) but my full insatiable appetite didn't come back until.after baby was born. Just try and eat whatever you can stomach. For me it was mash and frosties and plain pasta.

Totally normal! Eat little and often. I found it easier to drink fluids with a straw. My sickness disappeared at week 16 but it was hideous from week 6-16.

I was the same. To be honest I just ate or drank whatever I could manage. Couldn't cook as couldnt stand the smells. I've really started to enjoy cooking and eating again since 16/17 weeks. I find I can still only eat small meals though. It will get better.

I have lost my appetite too - much worse in the evenings than during the day. During the day I can eat but I don't want anything. In the evening i cant bring myself to eat much at all. Snacking is my friend right now. And all the plain foods.

peachypetite · 13/04/2020 20:49

Thanks all glad to know it’s not just me. I was not expecting to completely lose my appetite, you usually hear of women who can’t stop!

Yep. Me too. Both times.

carleyemma91 · 13/04/2020 20:53

Honestly the first trimester of pregnancy is the best diet i've ever been on! Wink

lauryloo · 13/04/2020 21:06

35 weeks and appetite is still rubbish. I think I've gained something like 4lb all in. Pregnancy is a brilliant diet for me

xxxemzyxxx · 13/04/2020 21:10

I went off everything as well, I’m 15 weeks now and although I am eating fine I’m not particularly excited when meal time comes around, but I really struggled in the 1st trimester.

I lived on satsumas, cheese strings and bbq crisps for a while as that was literally the only things I could tolerate.

maternityclothes · 13/04/2020 21:53

Totally normal, goes away for most women around 12/13 weeks.

peachypetite · 13/04/2020 22:20

Yeh the hard thing about going through this at the moment is not being able to pop out if something does take my fancy because obviously we are limiting exposure to outside! So just peering into the fridge and thinking nope and closing it again.

I’m feeling increasingly lethargic I think due to consuming so few calories and not having any energy. Here’s hoping it will get better but week 12 is still another month away!
