Liverpool Women's - Scan pictures

I've just heard through the grapevine that Liverpool Women's Hospital aren't allowing women to buy scan pictures. They're not allowing video calls or recording as stated on their website but unsure about this new info on the scan pictures. It seems excessive given some other trusts are providing pictures free of charge, and some trusts are allowing videos/video calling.

Has anyone had a scan in the last week or so and can confirm or deny this?

Posting for info too, as I have my 20 week scan at Liv Women's on Thursday.

They gave me pics from my 12 week scan for free in late Feb, as the baby wasn't cooperating and the images weren't great.

sel2223 · 12/04/2020 12:07

Not sure about Liverpool but my trust says the exact same thing on their website.
When I went for my anomaly scan a couple of weeks ago, they gave me 2 pics free of charge but said it was because baby was moving so much the images were poor quality so not sure if they're giving free to everyone.
They still said no to videos/phones despite the circumstances.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 12:08

@Bezalelle were there Wednesday for 12 week scan. My mum's friend had her 20 week last week and apparently asked and they said no. I know it's not exactly the end of the world but it seems really heavy handed, especially when other trusts are accomodating exceptions. I've messaged the women's on FB to ask but if we don't hear anything back by Wednesday I'll let you know how I got on

Hey I’m in the North west and went for my scan last week and was told I couldn’t record which I was gutted about, as other t trusts in different parts of the country are allowing it. Also I wasn’t allowed to buy photos I was given one free photo and not allowed to purchase or have anymore. The sonographer did go out of her way to make sure it was a good clear one though and she was nice, I guess she just has rules she’s been told to follow so has to stick to them.

It’s annoying and sad but their reasons for the photos was the machine you buy from would be spreading germs between people and I wasn’t allowed to record as it has NHS private info on the screen which they don’t want disclosing with the public.

Good luck for you scan xx

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 12:12

@catherine1210 was this at the women's? If I can at least get one then that's fine I can cope with that. Other trusts are giving women multiple scan pictures free of charge to get round people having to use the machine but just one to show OH would be nice x

I really don't get the 'no recording' thing. I had scans last year at Kings and they don't do official photos at all (even in normal times), instead you're encouraged to take your own pics.

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 12:28

@PaulinePetrovaPosey they've quotes distracting the sonographer, confidentiality, and first and foremost it being a medical scan. But other trusts have got all that bit out the way and then let women take a recording/picture. There's just a lack of consistency that's frustrating.

I'm curious as to why people would want multiple scan pics. Don't all scan pics of babies look very similar?

Bezalelle · 12/04/2020 12:37

I'm not so bothered about not being able to film, but I'd love at least a photo to show parents and MIL - feel so disconnected in lockdown! Still, I guess it's just how things are right now.

Fellow Liverpool mums to be, feel free to PM me if you want to chat on FB or elsewhere, for moral support!

FirstTimeBumps · 12/04/2020 12:38

@bluejelly can deal with just one. We only got the one at 12 weeks last time. At 20 weeks.we got about 8 but they were free as we were with One to One. But just the one will do me nicely. I'm.just not sure they're even providing one.

@firsttimebumps I have pm’d you xx

sao81 · 13/04/2020 08:12

I had a growth scan on Saturday and asked at the beginning of the scan if I could have one, this was given to me free of charge xx

FirstTimeBumps · 13/04/2020 08:21

@sao81 was this at the women's? Thank you, I'm assuming my mum got the wrong end of the stick and the person she knew just couldn't buy any extra pictures x

@FirstTimeBumps yes it was at the womens, I made sure to ask at the start as I'm 34 weeks now so wasn't sure if they'd be able to, but the sonographer was lovely! They had a seperate screen for me to see the whole scan it was really nice. Ive had all my scans at aintree so not sure if the extra monitor is something new or always been there

Babymamma192 · 13/04/2020 13:54

@FirstTimeBumps I had a growth scan at the women's on Wednesday wasn't expecting to get a picture but the songographer gave me two for free so I'm sure you'll be given at least one

FirstTimeBumps · 14/04/2020 09:52

Women's just messaged me back to say they're giving out free scan pics x

@FirstTimeBumps did they let you buy more than one scan or are they restricting it? X

MyDcAreMarvel · 15/04/2020 18:39

The writing of the sex of the baby in an envelope is really thoughtful of the womens.

FirstTimeBumps · 15/04/2020 18:53

@Flutterby989 couldn't buy any but was given three for free Smile

Yep, I had a growth scan at the women's last Weds and they gave me a picture with no prompting. They even asked me if I wanted to another one. They gave me one at my 20week scan four weeks previous too.

I was expecting to have to buy them as my best mate had her baby in December and had to pay for scan pics from the women's during her pregnancy. I didn't realise they were giving them free due to the virus but I guess it's one tiny silver lining in all this.

kayleesmithy · 15/04/2020 20:52

All my scan pics were free. They never charged me. But I was at fetal medicine unit so maybe that's why?

thethirdbar · 16/04/2020 00:30

I'm at the FMU as well @kayleesmithy so perhaps mine would've been free anyway too. No idea!

But general consensus appears to be they're giving them out free to everyone at the minute. :)

Mucklowe · 16/04/2020 12:53

I had my 20-week scan this morning at Liverpool Women's. The sonographer gave me three photos, no charge.
