Weight gain

Hi ladies.
I'm 16 weeks pregnant (first time mum to be) and the first 15 weeks I only gained around 5lb which is normal so I was totally fine with that, as of course I'm going to gain weight.
But this week I've weighed myself (always do it first thing in the morning after I've been the toilet and naked) and I've gained 5 1/2lb in 1 week! 😭😭😭
Is that normal? I haven't overeaten, and when I have had something extra, it's usually a bowl of cereal.
That's a lot of weight in a week and now I'm concerned!
Is that normal to gain so much weight in one week? And will I gain this much weight every week? If so I'm going to gain another 130lb before baby turns up! Surely that's not possible???? 😫😫😫

My first 2 trimesters I gained about 12lb all together. Some weeks I gained like 4lb eating the same usually it's fluid retention or baby growth spurt. Now in 3rd trimester and I'm losing weight not on purpose now only 4lb heavier than pre pregnancy

Did you eat something salty yesterday? Or not drink very much water? I had a scare last week, I gained 4lbs in 3 days. Turns out I had fluid retention because the next day when I weighed again to check on the situation I had actually lost 1/2lb from the few days before.

All sorts of things can cause massive fluctuations. I’m 3lbs up from pre pregnancy (33 weeks) on average.

I had to remember to think things through logically. So in your case in order to gain 5 1/2 lbs in a week you’d have had to eat an extra 19,250 calories over the course of the week, that’s an EXTRA 2,750 a DAY, you’d absolutely know if you had overeaten by that much!!

@kittykat7210 definitely not eaten all those calories! 😂😂
I think you ladies may be right with water retention. It didn't even enter my brain that what it was. Plus baby has definitely gotten bigger, as I officially 'popped' last week and now have a proper baby belly!
I'm usually really good with water as I drink loads when I'm at work but since I've been furloughed from work I've not drank nowhere near as much as I usually do.
I think best sort the water intake out!
Thank you! 🥰🥰

I know it’s hard, there’s so much going on at the moment! It sometimes just takes you a minute to sit back and actually think about things, good luck sweetheart! Xx
