Bleeding 6 weeks pregnant

I guess I just want to know what to expect. On wednesday we went for a early pregnancy scan. They advised me that they could see the start of a very early 5 and a half week pregnancy and to come back in 2 weeks to confirm viability. I'm diabetic so this is standard procedure.

When I got home I found that I was bleeding bright red blood but not much. This almost immediately turned to brown blood on the same day. This brown discharge carried on throughout Thursday and Friday and each time it was never enough to leak on to a pad and only appeared when wiping. According to all the websites I've been on this is considered to be spotting as it is only a few drops however it is continuous. Today the brown discharge turned to red blood but still not very much. I also have some light cramping today.
I've read so many confusing articles online that say spotting can be all different colours and still be okay and then others that suggest that if the blood is brown then goes to red its that start of a miscarriage.

Did anyone have anything like this ? Was your outcome good or bad? How long did your bleeding last?

I just don't know who to talk to about all this.

Bleeding lasting around a week on and off.

Quite heavy, almost period like.

Around 5-6 weeks pregnant.

18 month old currently destroying my house.

Good outcome Grin

I hope it is the same for you

I had red bleeding at 8 weeks followed by brown blood for a few weeks. Then another red bleed at 16 weeks followed again by brown blood. Yours could be implantation bleeding. On my scan at the EPU they could see a blood clot so said it could be that shedding itself. I’m now 21 weeks

I had 6 instances of bleeding, some with clots bigger than the foetus was at that stage. He’s 18 months old. It doesn’t always mean the worst.

I had spotting between weeks 5-6 and period cramps. Went for an early scan thinking it is ectopic (i had a high risk of ectopic) but all wad ok and was able to see the heartbeat. It was so emotional. Hope all goes well for you.

I feel like it's a rollercoaster. With it starting out red then moving to brown and back to dark red and back to dark brown. Last night it seemed to all have stopped. Both cramps or bleeding and this morning the cramps are back and bleeding is too.

I'm so unsure of what is going on. I have to call my diabetic midwife tomorrow. She told me to call her on Monday to tell her what's happened and honestly I don't know where happened. I haven't had any clots or anything and it's still not enough to get onto a pad at this point.

I'm an impatient person by nature so not understanding or knowing what is going on at the moment is driving me maf my next scan isn't until the 22nd April and that seems like a lifetime away right now!

Could you go for another private scan Next week to put your mind at rest? They could tell you where the bleeding is coming from. Sometimes is just a small pocket that has pooled there over time

Sarah1417 · 12/04/2020 13:19

At the moment money is a little sparse as my partner is self employed and most of his work has stopped and so we need to conserve the money. I have a little boy who is only 2 and I know it sounds awful but I need the money to put food on his plate. The bleeding seems to get heavy at this time of day. Still not loads. Just there when I wipe. But I feel like I've convinced myself that I've already lost the baby now Sad

Was it an internal scan? As I had an internal around 5-6 weeks due to a bleed and they said it could be possible to spot after as it could irritate the cervix wall.
Stay positive x

eatanazurecrayon · 12/04/2020 13:31

I had that after my 6 week scan. I think the scan and me filling my bladder burst a wee blood vessel or something. I had my 8 week scan and all fine. Waiting for 12 week scan next week 🤷🏽‍♀️

Sarah1417 · 12/04/2020 13:41

Yeah it was an internal scan and she was really pushing to try and see. We are 5 days in to this spotting situation now and neither me or my partner know what to think. Yesterday I managed to keep my mind off it all but today I just cant stop thinking. I keep thinking it's getting heavier but really it hardly changes and maybe the time between my bathroom breaks is the difference. I didn't really have any pregnancy symptoms before this so I can't really say that have gone away since sore breasts came and went anyway.

I guess it's just a waiting game now and we will have to see what happens over the next few days. I am finding it really hard to remain positive though I'll admit xx

Hopefully it’s just the aftermath of having the internal scan! Dark brown blood is supposed to be old blood so potentially you could of had a small sack of blood or something. I know what it feels like, constantly knicker checking and constantly anxious but every feeling seems to be 10x because we have a lot more time on our hands. Have you tried ringing the midwife centre that you will be attending and asked for advice? Xx

Sunny866 · 12/04/2020 14:42

Easy to say but try to stay positive. When I had this I bled red for 48 hours, not just spotting but having to change pads. Then my brown blood went on for weeks. The second time round again more red for over 48 hours followed by weeks of brown. Like you I had convinced myself of the worse. I went to a&e both times. Although they couldn’t scan me they checked my cervix to see if I was still closed and did the usual urine to check hcg levels which reassured me until my scan

Sarah1417 · 12/04/2020 15:26

I have spoken to the early pregnancy centre and they said that dark brown blood is old blood and generally every women is different. To keep my scan on the 22nd April so they can confirm what if anything is going on. She did say as long as it's not bright red blood but only to be concerned if it starts to fill a pad and really it's still only spots on the pad.

It is the constant checking that's driving me mad. Sometimes I think I feel a lot and then I get there and there is hardly anything and other times I think there will be nothing and there is loads. The cramps arent bath either just like a dull ache so havnt taken any paracetamol.

My best friend just gave birth a few hours ago and I am happy for her but I feel myself more devastated that my own little one might not be okay now. I keep hugging my 2 year old extra close at the moment. Sounds silly doesnt it :(

whistler2020 · 12/04/2020 17:46

Doesn’t sound silly at all, hoping everything will be ok for you xx

KayT1 · 18/10/2020 21:31

Hi Sarah, I know this post is a few months old but was wondering how your scan went? I am currently 6 weeks and spotting as well as light pinky blood and so worried cannot bring myself to even ring GP because I had a miscarriage in Feb it was awful.

Tee3219 · 02/04/2021 17:50

@Pentium85 Sorry I know that this post was ages ago.. congratulations 🥳 , I just wanted to ask if you had your BFP before or after the bleeding?
