25 Week Midwife Appointment

Has anyone had a 25 week midwife appointment recently? I'm 24+1 and for some reason mine isn't scheduled until 25+6, but I'm so worried it will only be on the phone. I still haven't felt my baby move and need some face-to-face contact/reassurance with a midwife. I was under the impression they need to start measuring the bump soon?

I am full of anxiety, this is not a fun time to be pregnant Sad feeling totally lonely and isolated today.

Have these appointments gone ahead face-to-face, anyone that's had one in the last couple of weeks? I don't know whether to ring the midwives...

I had mine on Wednesday at 25+2. It was over the phone and she just asked me how I was feeling, if baby has patterned movements yet and then booked me in for my gestational diabetes test in a couple of weeks time. I think it depends on your area but she told me they are not doing face to face appointments for anyone under 28 weeks.

I've got mine next week and it's going ahead.
My friend had hers this week and that also went ahead.

Did they say where your placenta was on your 20 week scan? I no if it's at the front it cushions the movements so you can't feel much if anything until a little later than others.

It's a very anxious time especially being isolated from family and friends.

Thanks for the information. I'm just really worried as I haven't felt any movement. I'll have a think about what to do. When did they let you know it was over the phone? Was the phone call the same time as you had your original appointment scheduled?

I'm 19 weeks now... At my 16 week telephone appointment I was told my 25 week would be over the phone too. I'm also feeling really unsupported and completely understand that these are crazy times and everyone must be extremely busy... But I've only seen my midwife once at 8 weeks. Luckily everything has been fairly straightforward so far but the last couple of weeks I've been really starting to struggle with SPD/PGP and cannot get hold of my midwife at all. I've called, left messages and also sent two emails in the last week (this was the method she asked me to use) and no reply. So just feeling a bit abandoned and totally understand where you're coming from! Fingers crossed your 25 week still goes ahead as normal, I know different areas are doing things differently.

Birdy1991 · 10/04/2020 12:22

@pollypocketrocket interesting... seems to vary by area then. I might ring the midwives just to check. I don't want to hassle them though, it must be a busy time.

My placenta is anterior, but I should have been able to feel some movement around the sides by now apparently. I haven't felt as much as these bubbles that everyone talks about! It's making it hard for me to relax.

And I miss my mum! boohoooo...

@mrs87 - sorry to hear that. It's a long time without seeing a midwife. Is this your first baby?

In the area I live they start bump measuring at 28 weeks, its not an exact science. I haven't got at 25 week appointment but that maybe because its my second.
If you're not sure about movement just phone the midwives and ask.

erised · 10/04/2020 12:25

@Birdy1991 I had a phone call last Friday (when I was 24+4) to tell me my appointment had been cancelled and moved from Tues to Wed via phone call instead but it was at the same scheduled time.

pollypocketrocket · 10/04/2020 12:28

I am in a fairly rural area outside of any city’s but we certainly have lots of CV cases in the area.
I no they have moved the unit outside of the hospital now and the birthing centres/hospitals I will be going to are separate from any general hospital so quite lucky there.

Bless you! I never remember any bubbles I just suddenly one day got full on kicks 😂🙈
My placenta is at the back so very lucky. But even so she can go into positions I can barely feel her some days. Hope you get your appointment x

I do have a gestational diabetes appointment the following day from my scheduled 25 week appointment... will that be with a midwife? Just wondering if I could be cheeky and get some questions in there and then...

That GD appointment prob won’t be with a midwife -you just have the drink and wait and have a blood test. I think if you are worried though and going to the hospital anyway could you call ahead and try to see a midwife after the appointment? Good luck

mrs87 · 10/04/2020 12:47

@Birdy1991 Yep, first baby so I'm completely clueless and anxious of course and just hoping everything is okay! Found out I also have an anterior placenta so I think it'll be even harder not being able to feel anything for longer for that extra reassurance!

Bellsx · 10/04/2020 13:08

I have mine booked for the beginning of May and as far as I'm aware it's still going ahead and will be a face to face appointment as the midwife actually rung me herself to re arrange the time of the appointment. Obviously it does differ in different areas though by the sounds of it.

Cornishmumofone · 10/04/2020 13:27

@birdy1991 I had an anterior placenta and never felt my baby move, but she was fine

Birdy1991 · 10/04/2020 14:53

@Cornishmumofone really? Did you feel no movement at all?
I think I just need to relax a bit. The whole self isolation thing doesn’t help!

The fetal assessment unit at hospitals is always open for people and you can normally self refer so if you’re worried you could give them a ring and get an appointment? I’m having some issues with itching at 30 weeks and they have given me an appointment for later this afternoon (I rang this morning) so you should be able to get in fairly quickly to see them if you say you’re worried about movement and want some reassurance with a Doppler etc.
