Coronavirus and pregnant

I will try and keep this brief. I am pregnant with second child. Did the booking appointment before this Covid-19 outbreak, had 12 week scan at hospital as normal. Went to book 16 week check up at drs and the surgery was closed and there was an automated message saying routine appointments have been cancelled (the surgery is crap anyway, unhelpful, chips on shoulder staff, can never get an appointment...) so I rung the community midwife at local hospital (number on the front of notes) and she said I might get one face to face appointment at 25 weeks and that will probably be it?! I said to her what about checking baby's heartbeat and measuring bump and she just laughed down the phone?!! She did give blood test results over the phone which was something. Yes I've had a child before but one appointment doesn't seem right and on the Royal college of midwifes website it says it's important to attend antenatal appointments.
Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Sorry that the person you spoke to was so rude! I’m currently 13+2 and my 16 week was supposed to be a face to face with my midwife but I’ve been told that is now a phone appointment but all of my other ones will be face to face as normal however some are meant to be with the GP so I’m not sure what will happen there. This is my first baby so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.
I’m also very anxious and upset about not having a landmark at 16 weeks to look forward to and hearing the heartbeat, worried about not getting blood pressure and urine checked as well.
You could try and call your local EPU and see if they will check you over and explain the situation?

Second baby here, same thing. She gave me a telephone consult for my 16w appt. Not possible to measure bump of listen to heartbeat now, but not all midwives listen to heartbeat (mine didn’t last time), and bump measuring isn’t very accurate anyway apparently.

I’m more worried about how they will (or won’t!) check urine & blood pressure.

It’s scary but I don’t see what else they can do. Such a nightmare time.

My midwife forgot to call me to tell me my booking appointment was over the phone so I had to chase them after I d turned up at my gp and no one was there which it being my first baby stressed me out a bit.
I m expecting not to have a 16 week appointment as I was told to book my whopping cough vaccine in when I book my 20 week scan and they ll do it afterwards at the hospital and I m having my bloods done with my 12 week scan.
I ve been tempted to get a blood pressure machine myself as I know how to use them, just incase I start showing signs that it's changed at all since I m not sure when/ if I ll get it checked by someone.

Thanks for your responses at least it seems to be a thing across the board which is what I was worried about. Sorry your anxious @Prettylittlelady I can understand why and tbh as @Sipperskipper said they don't do a lot at the 16 week checkup but then again it's peace of mind. I'm just telling myself if there is no bleeding etc I'm sure everything is fine. It's a long wait from scan to scan just unfortunate timing Sad

@Raaaa that is really crappy of them. You deserve so much better. The 16 week app is ok to miss, but the rest are important.
I’m in Central Scotland, and have been told at the moment I will have all appointments, but I must attend them alone.
This pandemic is unprecedented, but you still need antenatal care. x

Hi @Sipperskipper, I've bought urine dip sticks and a blood pressure monitor from amazon because I was worried about those tests aswell. That way I can do it at home.

LillyLeaf · 10/04/2020 10:10

Just to warn you my 25 week appointment was cancelled, no phone appointment either so it might be a while before you are seen.

BeMorePacific · 10/04/2020 10:43

@LillyLeaf hope you’re ok. That seems really shocking.
Hope you’re ok. Hopefully things improve over the next few weeks for you xxx

@LillyLeaf omg really? How many times have you been seen?
