has anyone had fibroids in pregnancy and what exactly are they?

Had a scan yesterday and apparently my baby has the company of a fibroid in there! its only small and the doc said it shouldnt cause any probs but i didnt even realise i had them and to be honest dont know what they are and if they have any effect on preg. and labour etc. so any advice is appreciated

fibroids are benign growths in the womb lining and can be big or small. Most women have them and have no idea because they cause no problems. They can sometimes grow very large and cause very heavy periods so need to be removed. I expect if you never knew about it before, and it is said to be very small, you won't have any problems with it. I very much doubt it will cause any interference at all with the pregnancy so don't worry!

I had one in first pregnancy - didn't even know till he was born. I had a funny bump and everyone thought it was the baby's knee...after he'd been born it was still there so I was scanned and told it was a fibroid...it gradually went down and didn't reappear with DS2. Didnt cause any problems at all.
