Absolutely horrified - has this happened to anyone else?

Mortified to be writing this but would just like to know if anything like this has happened to anyone else and if it means I could be nearing labour.

Last night I woke up around 2am and my underwear was wet, I thought my waters had gone but after getting up I had actually sh*t myself and it had gone everywhere. I didn’t even feel it or anything. It was just diarrhoea. I went and cleaned myself up obviously so embarrassed and thankful my partner had fallen asleep in the other room, changed my sheets showered etc. When I got back into bed I started having cramping and tightenings, a few over the space of 15 minutes and my baby was moving like CRAZY to the point it hurt. I fell back to sleep and woke up again an hour later with diarrhoea again (made it to the toilet this time) and today I have had diarrhoea again a couple of times and more contractions, but they’re very little and don’t last long.

I have no signs of a tummy bug, feel well in myself otherwise but I am 38+1 and wondering if this could be the start of things as I’ve read women often have a ‘clear out’ before labour. Has anything like this happened to anyone else? Feel free to laugh at my misfortune!

Oh you poor thing. I haven't experienced this myself as am only 34 weeks with my first, but I've read that one of the hormones released in early labour can cause diarrhoea so it sounds like it could be! Hopefully someone with some experience of this will comment soon but just wanted to say good luck if it is!

Moussemum · 08/04/2020 13:46

Oh dear I hope you are ok.Let us know how you get on.Im 37 weeks 3 days. This is my second baby and I was induced with my first. Are you being induced or waiting on natural labour?

ChipotleBlessing · 08/04/2020 13:48

You need to speak to a midwife. Diarrhoea can be a first symptom of serious conditions in late pregnancy. How recently did you have your blood pressure checked?

TeddyTeddy · 08/04/2020 13:51

It’s very common to start labour with a big poo or diarrhoea (happened to me, but on the loo). If this is the start you’re now a bit less likely to shit yourself in front of the midwife or you partner! Stay hydrated and good luck.

Selfsettling3 · 08/04/2020 13:51

Any change of movement including increased movement needs to be checked out.

Soubriquet · 08/04/2020 13:52

Clear outs are a sign but this sounds wrong

I had a clear out before my first born and I knew what was happening

Having diarrhoea whilst asleep and not knowing is different

Call your midwife x

I diarrhoead my pants when I was 36 weeks . I had diarrhoea everyday too and then I went into labour at 37+1 weeks !!

TriangleBingoBongo · 08/04/2020 14:01

Ring the midwife/hospital.

But it could a sign things are starting to move!

CandleFlames · 08/04/2020 14:07

I’m being monitored today so will mention it then. I’m having a planned csection next Tuesday so I’m hoping he can hold out until then!

A clear out is a normal sign - mine was another tick that it was labour ie I was already in early labour, it didn't come out of the blue.

What you had doesn't sound like that so please get checked out.

Batmanandbobbin · 08/04/2020 14:23

I had a clear out with dc 2&3 but I was fully in control and knew what was happening I’d definitely be mentioning it!

Pinkblueberry · 08/04/2020 14:43

My waters broke at 38 weeks, very quickly followed by a ‘clear out’. DC arrived 5 and a half hours later. So I wouldn’t rule it out, as others have said, get checked out.

GameSetMatch · 08/04/2020 15:25

I had awful diarrhoea a few hours before labour, I think it can be fairly common, it could also be a tummy bug. Maybe ring your midwife?

Umnoway · 08/04/2020 15:50

I had diarrhoea before I went into labour with all of mine, it was like a ginormous clear out I guess and they were born the following day.

BlueBlazerBlack · 08/04/2020 18:12

Any news OP?

CandleFlames · 08/04/2020 20:29

After a drop in growth and reduced movement, my csection is now taking place tomorrow! Thank god, I don’t think I can do this any longer.

I'm glad you were checked out. Bizarrely iron tablets gave me the shits. They constipate most people. Good luck for tomorrow. Update if you are well enough.

Delbelleber · 08/04/2020 20:37
