Suspected chemical pregnancy - still getting positive tests

Hi everyone. I wonder whether anyone has experienced anything similar to this, I am so confused as to what is going on.

So I had IVF treatment and had a BFP on Friday 27th March, it was a clear blue digital (1-2 weeks). On 28th I started bleeding which finally stopped on the Wednesday. It was like a period, possibly a bit lighter but was certainly more than spotting. I also had pain in my lower back but no cramps as such. Just before the bleeding began to ease I passed a small clot (sorry if tmi!) and I presumed a miscarriage.

Once the bleeding stopped I did a test thinking it would be negative and it said pregnant 2-3 weeks, this was last Wednesday. I have today done another test which is still saying 2-3 weeks.

I have been in touch with my IVF clinic who are about a 4 hour journey from me and they’ve said we won’t really know without bloods or a scan. I think I will call my GP for advice but I’d be really grateful for your thoughts.

I’ve been getting my hopes up thinking I could still be pregnant but the test hasn’t progressed to 3+ weeks although I appreciate I can’t really rely on the accuracy of the tests! 😊 I should be 5+4 now.

It does sound like a mc and so sorry if it is but you won’t really know what’s going on until your scan. Fingers crossed for you

I'm really sorry you're going through this. I've not experienced it myself but from things I've read on here, it seems your HCG levels (what the tests look for to confirm pregnancy) can still be high for several days or even weeks after a MC, hence why you might still get a BFP.
On the other hand, I've also seen plenty of posts about ladies bleeding in early pregnancy and it not being a MC.
No way of really knowing without a scan.
Good luck OP

I am in the exact same boat as you - I got a strong BFP on Monday (been having spotting on and off since Thursday), then had bright red bleeding last night and thought it was all over. Woke up to do another test this morning and it’s still as strong as Monday’s BFP. The bleeding has subsided for now.

Sorry I’m not much help but know you’re not going through this alone 💐

Thank you for your replies. I will make an appointment with my GP and request a referral to our EPU for a scan. It seems to be taking a while for my hcg to drop so I’m worrying about an ectopic too.
MrsB2019 - I am so sorry you too are in a similar situation. It’s so emotionally draining, the not knowing is the hardest. How many weeks are you? Are you going to see your GP?

I am only 4+5 so I’m certain nobody will see me until 6 weeks anyway.

Let us know how you get on! Good luck x

Was it a single or double transfer? You could have lost one but kept the other? Unfortunately tests aren't really that helpful in this situation. I had a MC and had positive tests for ages afterwards.

I'm really sorry this is happening, I remember the anxiety and sadness all too well.

MrsB2019 - thank you, fingers crossed all will be well for you x

It was a single transfer, one good quality blast put back at 5 days. I’m sorry for your loss 💐 I know I should stop testing, it’s not helping in the slightest. I just keep thinking because I was so early my levels would drop quickly but I know that isn’t necessarily the case.
