34+4 oblique lie, anyone else had this?

Hi all, baby was discovered to be oblique during a growth scan 3 weeks ago, where his head is pointing towards my left hip and his body is laid diagonally. I saw the midwife yesterday and she could feel that he was still oblique. This is my first baby and now I’m starting to worry about him not engaging. There’s still time yet right? Midwife didn’t seem concerned and when I asked what will happen if he stays like that she said I would have a more controlled birth where they will hold his head in place and break my waters... has anyone had a similar experience? How did the birth go?

Hi, no experience myself but just wanted to say that I am also 34+4 today! And I also had a growth scan 3 weeks ago that showed baby oblique. I worried like you did that he wasn’t going to engage but no one seemed concerned in the slightest and said that he had plenty of time to move into position.
I think it’s only when they get to 36 weeks and they’re still nowhere near where they need to be that they might intervene.

@Pineapplebaby omg that is crazy how you’re in the exact same boat as me! I see a another midwife on the 20th April. Let me know how you get on! I’m sure you’re right, they’ll check at the next midwife appointment then probably take it from there. Let’s just hope the little beggars move in the next 2 weeks, although I think mine is pretty comfortable where he is! I’ve read about ECV but don’t like the sound of them, but hopefully it won’t come to having to make that decision.

I know right! I even double checked to see if it was me that posted it when I first read it - baby brain/pregnancy insomnia and all that! Lol
I’ve got my next scan on the 15th so will keep you posted.
I’ve been going for a walk every day (safely of course) and spend a lot of time on my ball as both of those can encourage them to get in position.
I had a baby shower via the house party app at the weekend (bit random!) and was told that it looks like I’ve dropped a bit so I’m keeping everything crossed he keeps going!
I hadn’t read about ECV yet but I guess I should. I’m sure if your baby is already halfway there, it shouldn’t be too hard to get them into the final position, not as bad as if they were breech? 🤞🏻

@Pineapplebaby how did you get on?

I’m 34+3 today And two weeks ago baby was oblique according to a scan. Are you doing anything to try and move baby into a good position? I started doing an move I read on SpinningBabies. My hip is aching less since then and I think he moved (which I accept maybe coincidental).

Pineapplebaby · 16/04/2020 09:59

Hey! Really good thank you... I think he must have moved literally in the day or two before my scan!
Apparently he was head down and pretty low with it which is promising. Just hope he stays there now 😊
Not sure if anything I’ve been doing has helped but I have been walking as much as I can and doing my exercises on my ball - apparently just sitting with your knees wide apart and rocking side to side can help.
How are you feeling? Fingers crossed for the 20th! 🤞🏻

@Number3or4 I’ve been on my birthing ball and he seems to start wriggling when I’m on it but I’m struggling to tell what position he’s in so I’ve no idea if it’s helped or not! I might try the forward leaning inversion from spinning babies but when I read the cautions it really puts me off!

@Pineapplebaby that’s great news, well done!! As I said above I’ve been using my birthing ball but I am struggling to do much walking now, my hips have become quite painful and I’ve developed a limp! But I shall persevere! Sounds daft but can you tell he’s head down? Does it feel any different?

Thanks! I think the things I have noticed is a little more pressure on my bladder, and a bit more room at the top of stomach. I have a slightly flatter bit between the bottom of my boobs and the top of my bump, plus I’m pretty sure I can feel more kicks/movement under my rib on my right side.
They didn’t say whether he was engaged or not but considering I haven’t had the lightning crotch (or shooting pains up your fanny as my hypnobirthing midwife called them! 😂) I’m going to guess not. He feels heavier down there but I’m not really waddling just yet (although my wife might disagree with me there! lol)
Don’t overdo it if you’re in pain with the walking... the ball will work just as well, as do warm baths apparently, and I’m sure they’ll feel much nicer on your hips! Im convinced he changed literally overnight the other day so fingers crossed yours does the same x

@Pineapplebaby
@Number3or4
Just to update I saw midwife this morning who had a good feel and said baby is head down and doesn’t feel oblique. Hoping he stays that way! Have another growth scan at 38+3 (baby measures just above 95th centile so this is to monitor him) so time will tell unless he makes an appearance by then.

I’ve been doing 15 min daily walks and spending about 30 mins to 1 hour a day on birthing ball. I have been trying to sit up & stand nice and straight as I’m a terrible sloucher, so maybe this has helped, although he is not engaged yet. Good luck xx

That’s great news! From what I’ve heard, first babies at this stage don’t tend to come out of that position once they’re in it so it sounds like everything you’ve been doing has worked like a charm! 😊
Good luck with your next scan, fingers crossed all is still looking good. My next one is 38+5 but I’ve just got this feeling he might be along before I get a chance to go to it - or that might just be wishful thinking! 😂😂😂 xx
