Growth scan, trivial question about scan photos

Hi,

I'm 30 weeks and have my first growth scan today due to me having my thyroid removed last year because of Graves' Disease.

Anyway, with the current situation, my husband isn't allowed to attend with me so I was thinking of buying some tokens to get a couple of scan pictures for him. Is this ok to have done when you go for a growth scan? I'm also on the fence at it's a touch machine so it may actually be out of bounds.

A trivial question, like I said but just wondered if anyone else is in the same boat? x

When I had growth scans photos weren't available. Best to check with your hospital.

LividLaughLovely · 07/04/2020 07:52

Had photos from one growth scan but think it was an especially kind sonographer. Rest all didn't entertain it and that was pre-cv.

I wouldn’t count on it.

gamerchick · 07/04/2020 07:55

I wasn't allowed any photos at my later scans. I'd ask first before buying tokens.

I had my 12 week scan last week. The machine had a sign saying not to use and that pictures would be free. I had the scan and then asked the lady if I could have some pictures. She had printed them but forgotten to give them to me.
Just ask when you get in the room. They will understand that wtmith partners not allowed to be there, that a photo will be a priority for you. Ask and go from there. Best of luck

The policy at our trust is only to give photos at dating and anomaly scans. They have provided gloves for women to use when using the machine to get tokens and it’s contactless only, no cash

By 30 weeks the baby is too big for decent pictures anyway. They tend to be medical ones of the baby's skull and femur length etc.

Had a growth scan two weeks ago. Literally couldn’t see the screen at all as it was facing sonographer and no photos. Didn’t see baby at all-was purely for them to check. So prepare for that.

lettersbyowl · 07/04/2020 08:12

I had my 32 week growth scan last week. I could see everything on the screen and the sonographer gave me 5 lovely photos. Hope everything is as it should be with your baby OP enjoy seeing them!

mrssunshinexxx · 07/04/2020 08:24

I had growth scan last week sonographer gave me free pics

SockQueen · 07/04/2020 08:35

I never got pics from my (many) growth scans but I never asked. It's harder for them to get "nice" shots though, as everything is more squashed up

20viona · 07/04/2020 08:39

I got free scan photos at my 32 week scan but I think it's cuz I had my nurse uniform on and I work at the trust. You can't see too much on the scans as the baby gets bigger but it's a nice thought.

Hodge85 · 07/04/2020 08:41

Thanks everyone! I won't buy any tokens just in case, normally they ask if we've bought any so I'll see if they bring it up and I'll just explain the situation.

First and foremost, I just hope the scan goes well! :) x

I've had 3 scans in my 3rd trimester. I wasn't expecting any photos but yesterday the lovely sonographer just printed off a pic and gave it to me. I was very surprised! Probably no harm in asking but I think it depends on who is doing the scan.

Cardboard33 · 07/04/2020 09:18

I had lots of scans (not growth related) and they were happy to give me a photo at each one (they asked if I wanted one) although as others have said the bigger baby is the less that can be seen - my 36 week photo (ironically the day before he was born) is basically just a foot.

Hodge85 · 07/04/2020 09:34

@Cardboard33 was it planned for him to arrive at 36 weeks? Or was that natural? x

@hodge85 nope, completely spontaneous. We decided this was "it" around midnight after having a very normal day at home including my scan, got to the hospital just after 5am and he was here by 8am. Job done, as they say! They're classed as full term at 37+0 so he was only a few days off.

Cardboard33 · 07/04/2020 11:13

Oh they also got his weight quite wrong - they reckoned he was just below 6lb and he came out less than 24 hours later as 7lbs, so again quite good for 36 weeks. He's now one and had been consistently tracking the 9th percentile for weight.

Number3or4 · 07/04/2020 13:41

I had growth scan last week and I was given a picture to give my dh. It was a nice gift from the sonographer. They had just changed the rule that morning and no one had called us to let us know of this change. The day before you were allowed one designated birthing partner to all appointments and scans.

Hodge85 · 07/04/2020 18:13

Just to update you all, so I decided to buy a token for a single picture. I mentioned it when I went in to the room and they couldn't have been lovelier! She tried to get a few of his face and got a fab one in the end. She gave me about 5 and told me to keep my voucher for my next growth scan in 6 weeks so I got them for free. Isn't that lovely! I couldn't stop thanking them, with everything that's going on at the moment they made it a lovely experience today Smile x

Also, all is well with baby! He's measuring 3Ibs 13ozs (75th centile) Smile
