Clary sage oil, what’s it supposed to smell like?

I just bought some offline and it smells slightly minty and not at all how I expected, is it supposed to smell like that or have I been given a duff?

Sounds about right. It's a very intense smell and I lasted about a minute with it on the bump due to the smell. Went into labour that night though at 14 days overdue.

It’s smelt vile to me. It’s only supposed to be used in labour.

It smells lovely but a bit tea tree mint like (I love strong Fresh smells, you’ll often find me with my head in the cleaning cupboard sniffing all the products 😂) I wasn’t planning on using it just yet, I just wondered if it was suppose to smell like that haha!

It's only safe to use from 40 weeks but I used it on my 1st pregnancy on night before my due date and was having contractions the morning after and I plan to use again this time I just added a bit to the bath and soak for 20mins x

@KHall84 I’ve used a clary sage (and sea mineral) bath soak since I first became pregnant, well before that actually, didn’t realise we weren’t supposed to use it! I only bought some clary sage essential oil for once I’m in labour as strong smells calm me and will make it a better experience for me (traumatic and difficult delivery last time) and to put into A flask of hot water for inhalation since I don’t think I’ll be allowed to bring my bath soaks for the birthing pool!

You don’t think me sniffing it repeatedly (to try and gauge what it smelt like) will set something off?

It should smell a bit musty like cold used tea bags Grin

Foggymist · 07/04/2020 00:12

Smelling it won't set anything off no Grin Smelled vile to me, musty and horrible! Still slathered myself in it in desperation in hospital!

Smells like wet dog.

I remember standing in Holland and Barratt 41 weeks pregnant arguing with the woman who told me she didn’t want to sell it as it could put me into labour eh that was the idea love. Bathed in it, rubbed it on my bump (diluted in oil) massaged my reflexology point relating to my uterus did feck all.
