Baby vests - cannot get them anywhere!

I'm looking for some simple, white, sleeveless, baby vests for 0-3 months. I have newborn size already but my baby measured on the larger side at my recent scan (7lb 2oz at 36 weeks) so I want some 0-3 size as well just in case. They are sold out everywhere and I mean EVERYWHERE!

I've looked at John Lewis, Tu, Matalan, M&S, Amazon, Asda, Argos, you name it - they're out of stock.

What is going on and what are my options? Confused

Mamas & Papas seem to have some.

Whymustyoubringinthebirds · 06/04/2020 17:31

Very also have some, I used their vests and really liked them

APurpleSquirrel · 06/04/2020 17:33

You'd likely find them in-store or you could see if someone local is selling any?

MediocreOmens · 06/04/2020 17:35

H&M have some but not sure if they have sleeveless. I am having the same issue on finding basics, I am not sure if people are panic buying them or manufacturing has slowed but it’s very annoying!

HalfBloodPrincess · 06/04/2020 17:36

Morrisons have them, and they're good quality too

Giveronyoursausage · 06/04/2020 17:45

Next are reopening their online children's clothes section in a couple of weeks it will be limited and there is no next day delivery.

wondering7777 · 06/04/2020 17:45

Got some from Morrisons - thank you!!

It's mad - I can't imagine why people would panic buy plain white baby vests, but they're rarer than hen's teeth at the moment!

Heads up to anyone else looking for basics - M&S seem to have restocked! I just ordered some plain white sleepsuits from them for newborns and 0-3 months.

I’ve had the same problem with ages 6-9
Months for my DD, she’s okay in her size at the moment but ever growing... end up getting some from H&M in the end!

wowjustwowyes17262 · 06/04/2020 18:09

@Giveronyoursausage ooh are they? That’s useful to know!!

Nelbert19 · 06/04/2020 18:12

I had the same problem! Tescos has normal stock in store though, so it’s out there for someone else to pick up for you in an emergency!

I always buy mine in H&M or Matalan.

HalfBloodPrincess · 08/04/2020 09:09

Glad you managed to get some.

Fwiw my dd2 was est 7lb at 36 weeks and was born 3 days over at 8lb 7 and fitted in newborn for a few weeks x

rosemary33 · 08/04/2020 09:16

@HalfBloodPrincess sorry if this is a stupid question, but was 7lb what she was estimated to weigh at 36 weeks, or what she was estimated to weigh at birth IYSWIM? My baby's weight at 36 weeks is estimated to weigh 7lb (not sure what the birth weight estimate is) and I'm wondering whether to bother with newborn clothes...

HappyAsASandboy · 08/04/2020 09:23

My baby was estimated at 7lb 3oz at my 36 week scan. I delivered at 39 weeks and he was 8lb 9oz.

Newborn vests work fine, but newborn sleepsuits are a stretch because who's feet are bigger than the sleepsuit feet and they're not really long enough neck to foot.

I took a bag of newborn (3 vests and 3 sleepsuits) and a bag of 0-3 (3 vests and 3 sleepsuits) to the hospital so I had options once he was born and we could see how things fitted him.

NoRoomInBed · 08/04/2020 09:39

Matalan is still delivering and not too expensive might be worth a look?

sel2223 · 08/04/2020 09:47

Just saw your update about M&S as I was about to suggest them. I just ordered yesterday and they seem to have a bit back in stock.
H&M too for anyone else reading this thread.

HalfBloodPrincess · 08/04/2020 10:37

@rosemary33 that was her estimated weight at 36 weeks. I've had a 6lb5, an 8lb5, a 9lb and then an 8lb7 baby and they all fitted newborn sizing (was a bit baggy on my first, mind!)

HalfBloodPrincess · 08/04/2020 10:39

Also, @rosemary33 I was told that from 37 weeks they gain 1oz per day. It worked out roughly correct with dd2 but shes the only one i had a growth scan with so cant be sure if it's the same for all.

Rainbowchampagne · 08/04/2020 11:49

I found it really hard to buy vests and this was last year. Long sleeve vests were in abundance but finding short sleeved was near impossible!

Caspianberg · 08/04/2020 11:53

I was told last week at 36 week scan baby was an estimated 3500g already (7.7lb) , but a -/+ accuracy of 500g.

The m and s sleepsuits say newborn is from 7lb, 1month is 10lb, and the 0-3 size is from 13lbs. The 0-3 I have seem huge, so we ordered some newborn/1month also. Even if big, I doubt baby is going to be 13lb at birth.
