Small Bump Worry

Morning All,

I'm 19 weeks 1 day with my first baby. I am still fitting into my pre-pregnancy clothes but my bump is definitely visible which I love and it's very neat, but whenever friends/family see photos of it etc. and ask how far gone I am, they are commenting that it's small which is now making me worry :( my 20 week scan isn't until 17th April 2020 and I'm panicking now that baby isn't growing properly :(

I'm also not sure if I've felt baby move yet, maybe really slight bubbles but I don't know if I'm just being hopeful and convincing myself its baby :(

Just looking for reassurance really, sorry!

It's your first baby, bumps tend to take longer to blossom the first time around. I appeared to pop around 7 months with my first pregnancy!

Don't worry about it! Enjoy not having to buy maternity clothes for a little longer.

As the pp said, don't worry. I have pictures of me in a bikini with DC1 at 18 weeks. I have no bump whatsoever. My bump didn't get big until at least 6 months.

I was the same with my first, I didn’t show at all until 22 weeks! Try not to worry (and develop a thick skin for the comments, they don’t stop 😐)

A lot of people believe that pregnant women want to be told they have a small bump. They think they're complimenting you. (Yes, they are daft)

Don't worry about kicks either. Your midwife won't be concerned about their absence until week 24-25.

I'm 21 weeks and still in my regular clothes with a slightly reduced selection but that's more boob issues than bump. I lost a lot of weight in the first trimester with morning sickness so I don't know if this is contributing. I had my 20 week scan on Friday and all the measurements show exactly average size. Try not to worry too much, at this point there is more variation in bump sizes.

I worried about my bump throughout my first pregnancy as I kept being told it was small. My baby weighed over 9lb 😮

Bumps come in all shapes n sizes, just like bodies. Some babies hide inside, others like to hang out front.

1st babies tend to hide longer as your tummy isn't stretched and ruined

Don't panic bumps and babies come in all different sizes. I didn't get a bump at all until 25ish weeks and this is me the day before I gave birth.

kim1856 · 06/04/2020 14:57

Don't worry, I had no bump until about 30 weeks with first pregnancy and a tiny bump all the way through second time round, and both babies were over 8 pound! Xx

True fact: my colleague's DIL didn't even know she was pregnant last year until she went to A&E because of the strong cramps in her abdomen, and found out she was in labour!

She had no bump at 8.5 months. I have seen photos. She thought she'd put on a bit of weight, so had increased her jogging routine, and had been out on the lash the day before she gave birth.
