I’ve never had it in my life until getting pregnant!

And my god it is soooo bad 😫 everything I eat is giving me it, it’s waking me up in the night, making me so feel nauseous and it’s so uncomfortable.

Antacids don’t seem to be helping, is there anything else I can do? Anyone got any tips?

I don’t know what foods to avoid as it seems to be everything i eat I get heartburn an hour later, but I made the mistake of eating pizza last night and regretted that decision massively 😂 I’m 21 weeks 💕

Milk helps me a bit but I've been suffering for weeks with heartburn. Hope you feel better soon

Liquid Gaviscon

ScissorsBike · 05/04/2020 18:45

Rennies.

Oprezamole prescribed by the doctor. I was in total hell and the relief after I started taking it was amazing. Talk to your GP don’t suffer with it! As soon as my baby was out it disappeared.

Ive suffered horrendous reflux for years. Ive even had major stomach surgery to try and rectify ( didnt work :( )

Gaviscone is very short term but the dual action stuff should give you short term relief. Ranitidine? Omeprazole? Can be bought at the chemist ( or potentially supermarket )

Avoid chocolate, anything greasy like pastry ( or pizza!! ) anything spicey, or overly acidic like orange juice,or tomato based sauces. Dairy is likely to set it off too.

Opt for toast, porrige, dried fruits like raisins, crackers, veggi soup, mashed potato, chicken, rice ect.

Try a few days of bland food to give the irritation in your throat time to calm down then build back up from there.

Sleep with a few more pillows and try to avoid too much liquid with meals ( try drink more between to make up for it )

Really hope you feel much better soon xx

P.s in due early august too!! X

I found liquid Gaviscon helped and not slouching for at least an hour after eating. I used to sit on my birth ball straight after a meal and watch tv, it seemed to help everything settle.

Ranitidine was the only thing that helped me but I don't think you can get it at the moment. Ask your gp for omeprazole. Gaviscon is shit for severe heartburn.

Moussemum · 05/04/2020 18:51

I agree omeprazole is amazing.Get some from doctor. Also soda bread can help as it contains bicarbonate of soda which relieves acid or I found loveheart sweets can help.

I suffered really bad indigestion with my ds many years ago. The only thing that made a difference was liquid gaviscon. Used to go through quite a bit of it!!

CodyBurns · 05/04/2020 19:24

It’s gross but I use a good glug of apple cider vinegar diluted with a little bit of water, straight down the hatch. I was desperate for heartburn relief as nothing was working and I read about this online. I was skeptical but it really does work. You can read about it on some of the natural remedy blogs.

I had horrible heartburn during my pregnancy as well .

I started getting it around 16 weeks and I put off going to my GP because I felt silly going at only 16 weeks pregnant . I thought heartburn was for the third trimester and I figured I just wasn’t eating healthy enough .

But by 19 weeks I was in so much agony no
matter what I ate so I saw my GP and she prescribed me pills that LITERALLY TOOK ALL THE HEARTBURN AWAY ! ALL OF IT !!

So my recommendation is to see your GP!!! Trust me !!!

Milk and Rennies. They do orange ones which are okay if you can't stomach the mint flavoured ones.

FH27 · 05/04/2020 20:24

Hey I was getting this as well and I found one thing that really helped me was having my dinner a lot earlier (around 5 instead of 7) and then trying to spend a bit of time standing up either by going for a walk or pottering round the house. I hope you find some relief, I'd also never had it before being pregnant and I couldn't believe how uncomfortable it is!

Rachael321 · 05/04/2020 20:30

My doctor prescribed peptac. It's like liquid gaviscon and that helps me. I only take 1 spoonful when it's supposed to be 2 but 1 works fine.
Gaviscon wasnt doing it nor was omeprazole

If you have pain in the middle of your chest just under your boobs then take some paracetomol and hold a hot water bottle on the area it hurts (make sure you are wearing a tshirt or something so you don't burn yourself). It helps a lot. Also eat plain simple food (no fizzy drinks, tomato or anything acidic). And drink water as hot as you can without burning your mouth - makes you burp which helps too.
