When should you notice a pattern in baby movements?

I’m 21 weeks and since 16 weeks I’ve been able to feel my baby, there has been the odd day where he doesn’t move as much then it goes back to normal and the movements have been getting stronger.

I’m just not sure when to worry about lack of movement or when is too early? I’m especially wary of going into the MAU unnecessarily at the moment.

I usually can feel him when I’m lying down most in the morning, mid afternoon and at night.

I’ve had a mild tummy ache today which I think is caused by constipation (the struggle 🤦🏼‍♀️) and felt him fine this morning as usual if not a little more than normal, but not quite as much this afternoon. I can usually feel him without holding my belly but I’ve mostly felt him when I’ve had my hands on my belly for the last hour.

It’s my first baby so I have no idea when I’m supposed to see a proper pattern or what is concerning or not! I don’t know if he’s still small enough to move to a more awkward spot?

The pattern thing is not until 28w but if you are at all worried you should call the hospital and they will be able you reassure you in some way.

I'm 21+3 and have had no movements at all (anterior placenta).
I was told that I should be able to feel something by 24 weeks and that there's not usually an established pattern until 28 weeks.

I never noticed a pattern in my last pregnancy. Baby kinda just moved when he felt like it 🤷‍♀️

I should mention though that I felt baby move everyday from probably 23 or 24 weeks onwards though !

I felt the same around 22w, spoke to EPU and they said it was too early to be worried about reduced movements. I went for a private scan as I was worried and baby had just rolled into another position so they weren’t as noticeable. Since spoken to MW and she said to track from 28w, which is where I am now and they are definitely more in a pattern and noticeable!

I'm 23 weeks and have days where I hardly notice any movement then the day after it's back to normal and I notice loads... makes me worry but now it's happened a few times I'm guessing it's normal atm!
Hoping over next few weeks there'll be less of the quiet days

Hi OP!

So I’m 25 weeks now and I’ve consistently felt my baby move since 18 weeks!

From about 23 weeks I was CONVINCED we had a pattern! But of movement/kicks during the day and then he would really get his boots on at night! Also 100% without fail would feel him if I lay on my left side in bed!

WELL 4 days ago at 2am I’m on the phone to the reduced movements clinic as I’ve not felt him since about 9.30 and none of my usual tricks have worked! Essentially the MW said to come if I was gonna drive myself insane but pre 26-28 weeks NOT to rely on a self assumed pattern and as long as I had felt movement that day to try and relax!

Queue the next day my baby has apparently changed his pattern! Nothing till late morning/after I eat and kicks the shit out of me till dinner and then nothing past 9pm!

My long story short, believe people when they say you don’t get a reliable movement pattern till later on! I didn’t and nearly had a breakdown xx
