Anyone else craving wine?

I’m 29 weeks now and really can’t wait to have a glass of wine when this baby arrives! I’ve had all sorts of alcohol free drinks over the last 7 months and although they’ve sort of done the job, nothing compares to a lovely cold glass of Sauvignon blanc or a nice red (preferably with a rare steak!) that first glass is going to taste so good! 🥂🍷

@AnonyHB I'm also 29 weeks and dying for a nice pink gin and lemonade especially when the else's there has been so lovely. What is your due date ? I'm sitting in the garden today with a non alcoholic glass of Prosecco first time I've ever tried it

Whiffle77 · 05/04/2020 17:14

I'm having an alcohol free peroni!!

burntpinky · 05/04/2020 17:17

Yes! I dreamt I opened a bottle of champagne last night and drank 2 glasses. Felt awful about it in my dream. Only 9 weeks so bloody ages to go. If I’m on my own in hospital as CV back by then then my DH is going to be under instructions to pack a few mini bottles into my hospital bag!

AnonyHB · 05/04/2020 18:09

I’m packing two plastic flutes and a half bottle of champs with an ice block in my hospital bag 😂

@Goldenmother due 20th June but hoping they come around 38 weeks because I’m feeling huge!

@AnonyHB oh wow I'm due the 19th June I've never gone over my son (1st) was 5 days early and my daughter was on her due date

AnonyHB · 05/04/2020 20:29

Fingers crossed same for me, this is my first so no experience to go on. Would love to be a week or two early, as long as baby is healthy and ready to come of course! Wishing you all the best for the rest of your pregnancy :)

Hi OP

Reiterate what a previous poster has said, frizzante 0% honestly does taste like the real thing!!

I’m totally craving alcohol too! Not had a drop since November 9 2019!

However on the day what would have been my baby shower in May me and my husband are getting dressed up, getting an Italian delivered from out fave restaurant and having an in house date night complete with a glass of REAL, cold cold prosecco and a fat ass strawberry! I literally am counting down the days!

x

Self isolating without booze is rough!

AnonyHB · 06/04/2020 06:46

I had a glass of champagne on Xmas day and it was the best thing I’ve ever tasted @MrsRose2018 - I’ve not had anything since as had no ‘excuse’ to (like an occasion) and I’m nearing the finish line now so I can see that next glass waiting for me! Enjoy your baby shower :) 🥂

For anyone who loves a prosecco, freixinet do an AMAZING one that tastes exactly like the real thing. Drinking it out a prosecco glass too helped all my cravings and didn’t feel like I was missing out!

Didn’t like the alcohol free g and t, tonic water and elderflower cordial was my go to.

Sunshinedayze · 06/04/2020 07:56

Should of said freixinet ROSAY alco free prosecco, not sure what the normal one is like

Christmastree43 · 06/04/2020 08:01

Meeee! Yes it's 7.58 in the morning and I'm posting on this thread 🤣 DP keeps having a cider or beer of an evening and my one sip is enough but would absolutely love an ice cold glass of white or a cosy glass of red, especially with the nice weather! I also fell pregnant unexpectedly and have some absolutely gorgeous bottles sat looking at me in the kitchen!

Am looking forward to July when baby is here, quarantine is over, its hot and sunny and I can have all the family and friends round for a boozy BBQ (let me dream lol)

snch · 06/04/2020 08:46

I felt bad for craving alcohol pleased it's not just me! Ive been really fancying a gin and lemonade!

AnonyHB · 06/04/2020 12:26

Thanks for the suggestions for prosecco/champagne alternatives - I like wine very dry so tend to avoid Prosecco as it is too sweet for me. I have tried fizzero (M&S) and freixinet but found them too sweet :'( same with all the alcohol free wines I have tried. However, the Tesco g&t is bearable and lots of alcohol free beer/lagers are good these days - Peroni, San Miguel and a type that Lidl do (can't remember the name) are my go-to drinks at the moment. Still, can't bloody wait for that proper glass of wine. I also have stacks of wine @Christmastree43 and it has been torture seeing 25+ bottles looking at me for the last 7 months (my pregnancy was planned but happened a bit quicker than expected and I had just had two cases of wine delivered from the wine society I am a member of!)

I am struggling to find any decent alcohol free alternatives. I tried the Freixenet Prosecco wannabe (along with some alcohol free Sauvignon Blanc) but it still has that weird sweet, almost vinegar like taste to it. Not one bottle of still or sparkling wine has even come close!

I like my wine crisp and dry. I don't think I'm going to find a decent replacement.

Orange juice it is then!

LTofBR3 · 07/04/2020 11:00

I tried this over the weekend to toast our first wedding anniversary and was pleasantly surprised, not too sweet (though a bit sweeter than proper fizz), it's 0.5%:
Sainsbury's Aromatised Low Alcohol Chardonnay Sparkling Wine, Taste the Difference

IslayBrigid · 07/04/2020 14:25

Recently have been so wanting a crisp, dry, cold glass of rose! Just feels so appropriate for this sunny weather :) Alas, have 21 more weeks to go...

burntpinky · 07/04/2020 17:01

We have 3 bottles of this amazing red called Zensa and DH’s work are delivering them all (v nice) wine to keep their spirits up. DH under strict instructions not to touch any until I can drink and I’ve got 31 weeks to go!!!

He drinks beer which doesn’t bother me that much but if he cracked open wine there would be a domestic!

I’ve been trying to compensate with M&S Belgian chocolate truffles but DH keeps eating them

Cazzy198 · 07/04/2020 17:06

I'm 33 weeks and the nice weather is making me crave wine so much right now.

I was doing alright on 0% beer but sunshine = chilled white wine or rose to me.

It probably doesnt help that all my mates are holding glasses of wine in our video chats!

MrsERWor · 07/04/2020 18:44

@burntpinky omg M&S Belgian chocolate truffles are to die for!! Ugh, I reaaaally want some of them now!

burntpinky · 07/04/2020 19:04

@MrsERWor I feel that there aren’t enough in a box! Do you know whether WR have a decent equivalent? DH won’t go to M&S tomorrow

MrsERWor · 07/04/2020 19:23

@burntpinky I'm not entirely sure, but they may well stock Monty Bojangles cocoa dusted truffles, and they're basically the same thing - just as delish!

burntpinky · 08/04/2020 08:18

@MrsERWor thank you! I have put chocs on the list, we will see what transpires! I suspect it will be Lindt balls as he likes those and once he sees them will not be able to see anything else!

He said he’s going to open wine. There may be a divorce before the end of lockdown!!!

Christmastree43 · 08/04/2020 09:17

@MrsERWor those Monty Bojangles truffles are amazing!!! Someone bought me some for my birthday in November and they've been left in the cupboard as I thought from the packaging they weren't anything special, I got to the back of the cupboard in isolation desperation and OMG they are little gems of heaven! (and there's now none left Sad)

poopatroop · 08/04/2020 09:54

37 weeks and have been craving a decent, guilt-free G&T for weeks! Can't wait for the baby to get here, sit in the garden and have a decent G&T. I know everyone says you're allowed one occasionally, but it just doesn't taste as good - I don't know whether that's due to pregnancy hormones changing taste or just the subconscious guilt.
