Do you need a full bladder for the 20 week scan?

No :)

NicLondon1 · 04/04/2020 16:45

Yes I believe you do!

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 04/04/2020 16:46

No.

sel2223 · 04/04/2020 17:06

I couldn't find a straight answer to this so compromised with a 'half full' bladder and that was fine 😊

Ednos · 04/04/2020 17:11

On my letter, it says yes still need to drink ALL the water in the world :)

Melbs6 · 04/04/2020 17:46

I had a gender scan at 18 weeks a couple of weeks ago (before lockdown) and thought I needed a really full bladder. I drank a lot and didn’t go to the toilet to make sure it was really full. I got there and they told me my baby was looking a bit squished because my bladder was so full 😂 they told me to go to the toilet so he’d be less squished and could move around a bit and they could get good shots of him. So I don’t think you’ll need a full bladder for your 20 week one. I have my 20 week scan on Monday and I won’t be going with a full bladder

No you don't. Smile

mrsc1987 · 04/04/2020 19:04

I did it was 1pint of water and still wasnt full enough so had to go back 2 weeks later if unsure id call to ask

opticaldelusion · 04/04/2020 19:35

What does the letter say?

schafernaker · 04/04/2020 19:45

My letter said yes. Safer going with a full bladder, it’s easier to empty than it is to fill 😊

FH27 · 04/04/2020 21:25

Hey I had my 20 week scan 2 weeks ago and the letter said you needed a full bladder. When I had my scan the sonographer said its so they can see where the placenta is so once they have checked that they can let you go and empty your bladder.

2020Aug · 04/04/2020 21:28

My letter told me I didn't need one 2 weeks ago so sounds like it varies!

Christmastree43 · 04/04/2020 22:26

They told me I didn't need one, but as others say if not sure, easier to empty than fill!

LexiM · 04/04/2020 22:41

My letter says have at least 2 medium glasses of water beforehand. It so odd as I know my SIL said she didn’t at her hospital.

Mummyspider27 · 04/04/2020 22:44

How weird, mine said no. And actually she sent me to empty my bladder half way through (was only full from my normal drinking that day) x

kittykat7210 · 05/04/2020 00:26

My first baby it was a no, this baby it was a yes, specifying full bladder!

SnoozyLou · 05/04/2020 06:35

My scans have always been in the morning, so I just make sure I have 2 drinks before I go and that seems to work fine.

I've been too full before and had to go and part-empty my bladder. Not easy!

Fern08 · 05/04/2020 07:35

So from varied responses I'll probably just have a couple of glasses of water before I leave for the hospital :) I can't remember from my first and didn't get a letter for this scan as it was booked at my 12 week scan

I went with a full bladder, checked with the sonographer who let me quickly nip to the loo before the scan as I was dying for a wee!

At my 12 week scan my bladder was too full so I had to do half a wee before they could continue! Grin

Fern08 · 05/04/2020 11:43

@Colouringinbook I got moaned at at my 12 week for my bladder not being full enough 😆
