Why might I have an appointment with an Obstetrics doctor after my 12 week scan? Stressing!

Based on your experiences can anybody think why I might have received a letter for an appointment with an obstetrics doctor after my 12 week scan 2 days ago? The consultation is for 7 days after my scan which the sonographer said looked fine, there was no other information on the letter and as far as I was aware I was under the care of my community midwife who I had my booking in appointment with and am booked to see at the 16 week appointment. I am really really worrying, I would contact my community midwife but its Saturday and they won't get back till at least Monday. Could it be about the screening results?

Oh I should add the appointment is at the hospital and not my GP surgery!

There are lots of reasons why you could be consultant led care and the letter coming so close could be a coincidence. I know it's hard, but try not to worry. Just go along to the appointment and they will look after you Thanks

Hi there,

I had the same - an appointment booked with a consultant in ante-natal about a week after my 12 week scan. Mine was partly I think because of my past gynae history but it's also my first pregnancy. I got my screening results in the post. In any case mine was changed to a phone call where I was told due to my mum's history of pre-eclampsia to take a low dose of aspirin daily and that was about it.

Please try not to worry! - probably just like mine, so they can flag up anything you may need to do or take based on personal/family history. Your scan being fine is a reassurance!

It infuriates me when they do this. The letter always comes on a weekend as well! My doctor actually took it up with the hospital that they were sending out very non specific letters worrying women unnecessarily when they should be able to explain within the letter the purpose of the appointment.

Mine was because I came back 1 in 30 risk of downs and I also had a low Papp-a so they chatted through my results with me and then they arranged my CVS for the following week. I had the appointment 4 days after my 12 week scan and bloods xx

I had this. It was because I'd been on antidepressants a few years before hand. I spent so long worrying about what it was for and eventually the hospital told me over the phone.

Personally I'd hate it if they put the reason in the letter. Imagine it accidentally went through someone else's door or somebody else opened it?
