Baby heart beat apps for phone

Hi ladies,

I was wondering if anyone has used a phone app which can detect baby’s heartbeat? If they are any good? And is there one you could suggest.

Only reason I ask is because I am 16 weeks as of yesterday and won’t get to see my midwife until 22 weeks. 16 week app will be over the phone next week. I just want to have peace of mind really.

Thank you all in advance xx

My advice is don't bother.

  1. they are highly unlikely to be reliable
  2. you aren't trained to know what you are listening for or to spot any potential problems
  3. the combination of 1 and 2 may lead to false alarms and unnecessary trips to hospital, thus placing you at risk of catching CV19, or false reassurance if you think you've heard it and it's fine when actually you haven't or it isn't.

No

PS I know how worrying it must be for you, my sister is currently pregnant after her 4th round of IVF and 3 previous miscarriages and at 22 weeks hasn't even met her midwife yet. But really, this sort of app can do more harm than good.

They're all bollocks. The only way you can detect a baby's heartbeat without a scan is with a doppler and even then only a trained person should be doing it as it's so easy to confused your own heartbeat or the bloodflow through the cord as the baby's heartbeat.

HighInTheHills · 03/04/2020 22:38

They will cause you extra angst and are unreliable.
Midwives don't generally listen for the heartbeat before your 24wk appt anyway as they can't reliably hear the heartbeat before then and this has the potential to cause unnecessary distress if can't pick up in.

Home dopplers are not recommenced for the same reason.

Sympathies OP as it's hard not being able to check in on baby in between midwife appts.

Please don't

I couldn’t get any of them to work even when I was 30+ weeks pregnant. DD is almost 1 now

tallah · 03/04/2020 23:00

Why have you not had 12 week scan? I've got mine booked

Sallyjo27 · 03/04/2020 23:39

Please don’t. They’re absolutely awful. I paid for one as I was bleeding and was worried. I heard a “heartbeat” but I’m actual fact I’d had a mmc and there was no way the heart was beating. They’re a complete scam
