Hi everyone

I’m 24 weeks pregnant with my first baby, a little boy :)

The only thing I’ve bought so far is a nursing pillow which I’m using as a bump support (and it’s great haha!)

There’s a girl I know only 6 weeks ahead of me and she has absolutely everything she needs! Now I’m panicking haha! We’re moving house which I’m blaming for the delay but it’s not like me to not be organised! :)

What is the first thing you bought and when? What would you say is essential? What is your favourite thing so far?

I already know what pram etc I would like and the website is still running thankfully - if not I will get a sling in my baby box to use if I absolutely can’t find a pram if he comes early or anything.

I brought a Dumbo all-in-one outfit from Woolworths when I knew I was pregnant for dc 2.

With dc1, we didn’t buy much to near due date. In the past, it was almost superstitious to buy it all early. A lot of people would order from John Lewis (or wherever) for it to be delivered just before due date.

Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Essentials are pram, nappies, clothing, changing mat, Moses basket/cot, Babies grow quickly so you don’t need as many clothes as you think. 0-3 months can only be 12 weeks, so not that long.

The first thing I got was a few clothes after my 20w scan... But I wish I hadn't bothered now because my friend gave me 3 IKEA bags full of clothes!!! I have more clothes than I know what to do with now. I ordered the travel system about 22 or 23w, it was a good deal and glad I ordered it when I did because its gone up in price by £100 now! I was also given a fair bit of baby equipment from my lovely friend so I have a moses basket, bath support, bouncy chair and play gym. I just got my box the other day and that has some useful things. I love the box, it comes with a mattress and sheets and blanket and ill be using that for as long as possible before buying a cot. I also got nappies, cotton wool and some creams and bath wash.... There was some maternity pads and breast pads in the baby box but I got some also and I got a cheap breast pump with milk collecting shells off amazon. So I think I'm pretty organised except I still need to get nursing bras.

I'm 32w btw

I'm 29 weeks and I don't feel ready at all. Iv got Moses basket and some cute all in one outfits. I'm ordering a couple of bits a week now like perfect prep, bottles, vests, socks and muslins. My mum is currently buying me one box of formula a week and one pack of size 1 nappies. Xx

A simple, foldable 'from birth' Maclaren stroller. Was brilliant and all we ever needed.

Whoareyoudududu · 03/04/2020 13:38

Always just a few outfits after the first scan and I started buying bigger items after the 20 week scan. I never bothered buying the pram until much later on because it’s so bulky and I didn’t want it to stay in the loft for too long.

A book. He's not even looked at it once.

Brought pretty much everything else from about 6 months onwards (in the sales!)

I was 8 weeks when I bought my first baby thing. It was a Baby Boden sleepsuit covered in pink pigs. Think the next thing I bought was about a month later and it was a bodysuit from Next. Soon after I got a full outfit with tiny shoes and hat. It was fun buying some things and getting more excited about it. I would definitely get a few things in just to make it more fun for you.

toastandmoretoast · 03/04/2020 16:54

Oh I'm 20 weeks now btw Smile

I bought 4 gender neutral
Sleepsuits from boots. Think I was about 13 weeks 😊

I started buying stuff in my third trimester . I can’t remember what the first item was as I did a huge shopping trip that day but I remember being around 31 or 32 weeks 😬 I honestly left everything last minute though .

My waters broke at 37+1 weeks and I was in the early stages of labour and my husband was out at John Lewis picking up last minute essentials 😂

My husband and I went with a minimalist approach and only bought the absolute essentials. Then as we felt we were missing something we would buy it . Thank goodness for Amazon Prime 😝

MichelleOR84 · 07/04/2020 17:26

Forgot to say the essentials:

Car seat
Clothing
hat , mittens, socks
Pram suit
Nappies
Wipes/cotton balls/cotton pads
Muslim clothes
A few swaddle blankets
Cot or Moses basket
Sleeping bag or swaddle

I'm 24 weeks, I've started buying stuff now even though I didn't want to but because of how things are, I'd rather get stuff now in case it gets worse (lots out of stock already)

So far we've got...

Next2Me crib
Car seat
Changing mat
Baby chair
A carrier and a sling
Changing mat
Bottles and steriliser
A few newborn clothes

Plus my beloved pregnancy pillow haha

I bought a second hand pram and snuzpod crib just days before my 20 week scan, before we went into lock down and all the shops shut.
In normal circumstances, I would have waited till after the scan at least but I panicked that everywhere would shut (which it did) and that was 2 things I wanted to actually see in the flesh before buying.
I'm only 21+5 now but I've bought loads online since being in lock down..... clothes, muslins, towels, a breast pump, bottles, nursing bras, books, creams.... lockdown is terrible for my bank account!
