How are you feeling if so? How far along are you?

I’m due 12th August, 21 weeks 1 day today, first baby and I’m having a boy!

I’ve felt a bit overwhelmed with this whole pandemic and the unknown of whether it’s going to be better by then! Fingers crossed for the best.

I also really want to start buying things but feel bad for shopping online given the current scenario, I just don’t want to leave it all til last minute and be really unprepared.

Would love to hear from you all Flowers

I was recommended aveeno by my practice nurse when I was having trouble with my skin and my skin is quite sensitive but I'm fine with it.

I was thinking of trying to use a few products as possible. My own skin has been better since I stopped using shower gel and stuff. I now only use natural shampoo bars and soap and it's really helped. I use aqueous cream and sudocrem for the odd time I get dry skin. I think I'll probably start there with the little one and see what her skin needs before buying products.

Newmama29 · 20/05/2020 16:40

I’m going to use the child’s farm range. Myself & DP have bad eczema & find it works wonders for us so going to stick with it for baby. They do small bottles in a pack in boots like sample size which is good as if you don’t like it you aren’t stuck with full bottles to use.

2020Aug · 20/05/2020 16:48

I'm finding the heat hard today. My bday is in August and my mum always says it was really tough as there was a heatwave in 89 when she was pregnant with me! I'm now understanding what she meant and we haven't yet got to summer! I think I'm going to skip my daily walk.

I'm so excited to say I'm in my third trimester! Had my 28 week appointment today, the measurement was 28cm so bang on so feeling happy. I've had a few comments that my bump is small so was really pleased.
Also my belly button is now half popped out 😂.

heroineinahalfshell · 20/05/2020 17:46

If you're signed up for Boots parenting club they're giving a free Childs Farm kit (and mam bottle), but you have to redeem in store. Going to give my phone to DH on Saturday as there's a Boots next to our Sainsbury so he can get them when he's doing the weekly shop.

I love the heat (I used to live in Florida), but I like the idea of a paddling pool for when it gets really hot! I spent all day in the garden today dialled into meetings on my phone, it was fab. Plus we're lucky that we have an old Edwardian house that is always really cool, so if it gets too much outside we can cool off indoors. I'd hate to be stuck in our old city centre flat this year, between lockdown and the heat!!

@StephD2020 I also got the all clear on my glucose check bloods this week, like you I'm very happy about it. I had my consultant review for my heart murmer too and she's signed me off as my echocardiogram was clear. She did say that it's unlikely our standalone MLU will reopen before August, so I'll now be planning for the midwife unit at the hospital. It's a shame but my anxiety swings the opposite way to yours - I'm too anxious about the need to transfer/something going wrong at home to consider a home birth.

JMill13 · 20/05/2020 17:58

I usually love the heat, especially living in NI I count the weeks to summer 😂 but I've not got the right clothes or anything for it this year. Need to get ordering some dresses and shorts badly. Keep pumping my money into baby stuff and forgetting about myself. Might ask Oh nicely if he can buy me something nice.

WorriedButterfly · 20/05/2020 18:01

Thank you all - felt some stronger kicks this arvo so feel a bit happier!

When's your bday @2020Aug mines the 15th. I quite like the heat but definitely got the paddling pool lined up for the summer!

I'm going to look at Child's farm, I've not heard of it before, I was looking at Weleda.

Feelthefear01 · 20/05/2020 18:40

I'm loving the heat, the warmer the better, but then I always feel the cold (Only person in Spain when I went on holiday that was sat in a coat) @WorriedButterfly I'm due Aug 16th

ml01omm · 20/05/2020 18:48

Has anyone started their NCT classes yet?

We start ours via Zoom next week. Still gutted its not in person, as I was relying on them to try and make some mum friends.

2020Aug · 20/05/2020 18:53

@WorriedButterfly my bday is 26th, due 12th so I'm hoping I'm not 2 weeks late! When are you due?

@ml01omm yes I have, I'm really enjoying them. I am also disappointed there couldn't be in person but glad we are doing them anyway. We are still getting to meet other people, albeit virtually and already talking about meeting up when we are allowed!

heroineinahalfshell · 20/05/2020 19:04

@2020Aug I was meant to be born in March, but ended up being born 1 day before my mum's birthday in February. It's always been really special celebrating our birthdays together, so I'm sure you won't mind too much of LO makes a late appearance Smile

JMill13 · 20/05/2020 20:21

I haven't signed up to any classes. I actually turned down the 'getting ready for baby' classes before lockdown commenced so wasn't really planning on doing classes that require zoom (anxiety would drive me crazy) but then I'm scared of missing something and having absolutely no clue what to do with baby once they're here 🙈

cannotmakemymindup · 20/05/2020 20:33

I'm loving the heat as I am normally cold like you @Feelthefear01 but this sun has been intense today. I have a large hat and my husband will be topping up my ice lolly supply in a couple of days time. Trying to get my tan on and lots of Vitamin D, however I am not tanning evenly. Anyone else finding their skin blotchy in the sun but tanning that way?

I would recommend Aveeno to. Another one I trialled in the past then went on to purchase for my daughters skin and still use. I think it's from about 3 months old you can use it. I am mainly just going to use baby oil after a bath. Babies are so slippery when in a bath/getting them out they really don't need anything in there.

squashie34 · 20/05/2020 20:56

@ml01omm our zoom Classes start in two weeks so you will have to let me know how they are!

StephD2020 · 20/05/2020 22:43

Wow lots to catch up on here from this avo!

Yes absolutely boiling here in London - it's still 17 degrees now, reckon it might be a night where the fan stays on all night!

Looks like I might have made a duff purchase on the baby products - I've gone for Johnson's cotton touch 🙈 too late now!

Brilliant news @heroineinahalfshell about the GD results - have you celebrated with an ice cream tonight like I have 🤣🙈

Glad your appt went well @2020Aug - we're now on the final countdown 😁

@ml01omm I'm the same as @squashie34 we start ours on 1 June so keep us posted on how yours are.

Well we've just had some devastating news - my DH's biggest client has pulled all contract work until the end of the year which means we now can't move as no income to pay the bigger mortgage. Absolutely gutted. On top of that the mortgage company have also withdrawn our application as they are now spooked by us both being self employed in the current climate. Bloody heartbreaking as I had mentally moved myself in. But I do believe in fate and I guess both things happening on the same day is someone's way of saying this is not the time to move maybe? Let's hope tomorrow is a better day 😔 x

Newmama29 · 20/05/2020 22:43

@JMill13 this is how I feel! My DP isn’t bothered about classes, especially as his shifts aren’t ideal for them so I definitely didn’t want to do them alone! I absolutely hate all these zoom & FaceTime things so I’m giving all that a miss. However, I’m also worried that I won’t be prepared! I joined a course online which you just browse at your own leisure - don’t know how ideal it will be as I haven’t delved into it yet. I wonder if there is any good YouTube channels or other courses you can do without the pressure of being “live” 🙈

solihullapproachparenting.com/online-antenatal-course/

This is the link to the course if anyone is interested

heroineinahalfshell · 20/05/2020 23:06

Ah @StephD2020 I'm really sorry to hear about your DH's client and mortgage app. You've got an amazing attitude but it must be gutting. Fingers crossed there's a much better property waiting in the wings for you when the time is right.

No ice cream but I have been chomping on an easter egg that was hiding in the back of the fridge! Smile

JMill13 · 20/05/2020 23:36

@stephd2020 oh man. Not great. I'm a big believer in the universe looking out for us though and bigger and better things are waiting for their time to shine.

@newmama29 oh thank god I'm not the only one. I video chat with my friend group once a week and that's absolutely enough video for me and I hate it but it's nice seeing the girls. The thought of doing it with a bunch of strangers, no thanks. Oh has to do video calls every morning for work now that they're all wfh and be hates them so much, so can't imagine him ever wanting to do antenatal classes on one too.

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out tomorrow (while I'm supposed to be working🤫) There's bound to be stuff on YouTube or at very least some random websites online.

Oldestchild90s · 21/05/2020 14:25

Hi all, hope you're ok today!

Sorry to hear your news @StephD2020 fingers crossed things get better.

Can someone give some advice? I'm at work, i feel a little iffy and shaky (may be due to the weather) then i thought i haven't felt my little pipsqueak kick much/ at all today. I'm not sure whether to worry about it, or if its because my mind has been on other things that i just haven't noticed? I have my 28 week appt tomorrow. What should i do?

Superscientist · 21/05/2020 14:35

Can you get a cold drink and sit somewhere quiet for a little bit to see if that prompts some movement.
If you are concerned I wouldn't wait until your appointment tomorrow, I would give triage or midwife a call today.

cannotmakemymindup · 21/05/2020 15:36

@Oldestchild90s I agree you need to take time to check. Sit, eat and have a drink but either way call maternity triage or your midwife as to the best course of action.
From week 28 is when all of us actually need more calories to so do make sure you are taking enough time to drink and eat through your working day.

@StephD2020 sorry to hear about your disappointment regarding moving. I really understand how difficult it is once you've set your heart on doing so.

squashie34 · 21/05/2020 15:46

@Oldestchild90s agree that you need to take some time to just sit and relax, have a drink and a sugary snack if you have any (as much for you as your little one) and see if it prompts movement.

I would think about possibly giving them a call anyway if you don't feel too great, your blood sugar or blood pressure may be a little low which is worth calling about anyway XX

Camia · 21/05/2020 16:42

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I'm 29 weeks today which is a little crazy to realize. Glucose tolerance test is tomorrow (blegh) then I'll hopefully be spending the weekend painting a toy/book shelf we got for the nursery. Then a phone appointment with my OB, meeting with a potential pediatrician, growth scan...I feel like things are picking up and there's so much to pack into not a whole lot of time. Hopefully it'll keep me busy enough that this last trimester won't drag like the second one did.

@Newmama29 I've had class issues too. They're all cancelled through June, which means they included the last one before my due date as it started in late June. They sent me a similar online thing that I can go through whenever I want and it's better than nothing but not ideal. Doesn't help that my partner is of the mindset that we'll "deal with it when it happens" and isn't interested in reading through any of it with me. I'm worried he'll be in for a serious reality check when I go into labor and have no idea how to handle it or a newborn but he's stubborn

Newmama29 · 21/05/2020 16:59

@camia I completely understand where you’re coming from on the DP front. I have a typical man who buries his head until it happens lol! He also is a bit freaked out with the labour aspect so I think he is trying to avoid talking about it so that it doesn’t send him into too much anxiety, whereas when it actually happens he will just have to deal with it. I’m hoping I can do some research in the next few days & hopefully find some more interesting courses/videos

Camia · 21/05/2020 17:14

@Newmama29 I think mine is a little freaked out too, though of course he won't admit it. We'll see how he reacts when he actually has to deal with it. He can get squeamish lol

Luna321 · 21/05/2020 17:24

My partner was exactly the same with my first pregnancy. He didn't want to even think about buying anything until halfway through my 2nd trimester. I found I had to bring up things in conversation really gradually as not to overwhelm him 🙈 He did read a little bit of a book but gave up and said he'd rather wait and learn on the job 🤦‍♀️
He got a bit of a wake up call when our son was born but has been much better since.

The heat has been really difficult to deal with today. I've been so tired. Trying to get some motivation to write school reports but not having much luck!
