Anyone else really struggling finding a name?! So hard!

Hi!

I’m currently 21 weeks with my little boy and I’m finding it sooo hard to think of anything I love.

For some reason I really struggle with boys names! There’s a few that my fiancé and I have thought of which we like but nothing that really seems to be ‘it’.

He really likes the name Max but I’m so undecided on whether I like it 😂 I’m worried he’s gonna get here and I still will be totally stumped!

Does anyone have any good apps or websites to help look through some names?

Did you wait til your little one had arrived before deciding on a name or did you know beforehand?

I feel your pain, I have lots of girls names but I think boys names are so much more difficult!

FilthyforFirth · 01/04/2020 15:55

Pregnant with my 2nd and also struggling for boys names. I love DS's name, we had it before we got pregnant. But cant decide on one this time round. We have a girls one we love but only 6 weeks so no idea on sex yet.

Good luck!

We were so scared that we might have a boy, purely because (at the time) we couldn’t think of any boy names we liked that also went with our surname!
Thankfully we came up with one we both liked literally a week before our 20 week scan. Lucky we did as we’re having a little boy :)
We found ourselves watching all the credits of every film and tv programme, just to see if anything stood out! That was after we’d exhausted all the lists we’d read online...

I've found the opposite. I had a couple of boys names picked out that we loved and then found out baby is a girl and was completely stumped! Every girls name sounds so boring to me but I think we've settled on one finally!

Try Youtube. Loads of videos on there of unique names that people use or would have used. Tip: if you find one you love, don't go posting on the 'Baby Names' forum here... people are quite brutal and will ruin the name for you Wink

I went through the top 1000 list with my husband last night and not a single boys name stood out to us! 🙈

We have our boys name picked, I'm only 16 weeks. The kinder app is pretty good, a friend told me to get it

3rdTrimester · 01/04/2020 16:29

29+2 here and struggling! We had a girls name decided early on... and then found out we're having a boy! Been through every online list (they're all the same) and nothing is jumping out 🙈 we've resigned ourselves to waiting until he's here before deciding. Only 10 weeks to go x

KHall84 · 01/04/2020 16:30

I havent struggled with boys my top two are Nate and Logan x

Algebraicyourleg · 01/04/2020 16:37

We used the app Kinder to help us. Was very helpful, but like a pp boys names were easier for us and when the second twin was also a girl (found out when they were born) we were stumped for a wee while but got there quite quickly.

Covey? Rona, Grin

Charlottethevet · 01/04/2020 16:49

We are thinking Rupert or Angus for a boy and Lily or Calliope for a girl

ejmay90 · 01/04/2020 16:50

I'm 36 weeks and we still haven't decided on a boys name!
Were now getting closer and I'm panicking we wont have decided by then!
So many girls names we both like but not boys.
There is an app called baby name, which is like tinder for baby names lol! You link your accounts and just swipe haha!

SpiltMilk100 · 01/04/2020 16:50

Pregnant with DC2, no idea of sex but not a single boys name that DH and I like. Last time with DS we didn't know the sex either but had a boys name's picked but couldn't think of a girl's name, so I'm taking it as a sign we're having a girl this time as we have a girl's name but not a boys.

Standrewsschool · 01/04/2020 16:55

I used to look at tv credits for ideas.

Max - short for Maxwell, Maxim, Maximilian, Maximus,

Can you list the names you have considered and we can come with alternatives in a similar vein?

Standrewsschool · 01/04/2020 16:56

We had ideas before baby was norm. With dc1, he had our favourite name. Dc2 came along, didn’t suit his name so was given an alternative name,

Dyra · 01/04/2020 17:07

I can relate. DH and I had settled on a girl's name we both loved before the booking appointment.

Dyra · 01/04/2020 17:09

Dratted wriggly child...

Anyway..... We had nothing but an ongoing argument for a boy's name right up until I gave birth.

Fortunately we had a girl!

Clemmie83 · 01/04/2020 18:26

We've just used the Kinder app, thanks for the suggestion. One of the only boys names we agreed on was Milo...what do people think of it??

Bezalelle · 01/04/2020 19:06

Our boy's name is sorted but still undecided on a girl's name. We've got a middle name, but three options for the first name - two very ordinary names and one quite unusual.

Hoping to find out the sex at the 20 week scan in a few weeks.

Cardboard33 · 01/04/2020 19:25

Our baby was born before we'd decided on a name. We did our long list around 15 weeks, got it down to about 5 names by 20 weeks then couldn't decide every time we went back to it. Our son was called a different name for a day then my husband decided he didn't like it so we went with one that we'd got as a middle name. It took us about 2 days to make a decision. You've got plenty of time to decide (you can register for weeks after the baby is born) and from talking to mums there's about a 50/50 split between those who had 100% decided before hand and those who hadn't.

Tbh he didn't really feel like he owned the name for a few weeks or so because until you start calling the baby by the name they don't, and between us we just referred to him as 'he/him/his' so you might find that you don't really have a strong preference for any names whilst you're pregnant and that's ok.

Iwanttobeinthesunshine · 01/04/2020 20:28

@Clemmie83 I know a nice Milo. The name wouldn’t work well in Australia though- it’s a chocolate malt drink powder similar to Ovaltine!

MichelleOR84 · 02/04/2020 18:07

With my baby boy , my husband and I decided not to find out the gender ! We loved our boy name pick but struggled to find a girl name. In the end we both agreed on a girl name that was only okay . We didn’t love it but we didn't hate it . Then our boy was born and I was relieved it was a boy 😅 . Now I’m Pregnant with baby number two and AGAIN I find boy names so much easier ! Heeeeelp 😩!!! Maybe we will never agree on a girl name and maybe I’ll have another boy and it won’t matter 😝

I find baby centre to be my favourite website for looking through baby names . They suggest other names you might like based off of a name you like and it’s pretty accurate .

I also like watching YouTube videos “ baby names I love but wont be using “ . I find hearing the name makes it easier .
