Hi I’m just after some advice/ previous experience. First time mum to be with absolutely no idea what I’m doing Blush I’m 28 weeks tomorrow and just weighed myself. I’ve put on a stone/ 8kg. All the info I’ve seen online says it should only be between 16 and 20 kg total. I’ve not got the best diet with snacking but meals are mostly home cooked/ balanced. I’m really panicked about this now! Usual BMI of 22 I think, now 23.5. I have MW appointment tomorrow so will discuss then but just wondered others thoughts? I’m just so hungry all the time!

Your weight gain looks fine to me. Don't stress to much as far as you're trying your best to eat healthy. I gained far more my first pregnancy and lost is almost all after few days of giving birth.

Plus, your BMI doesn't change in pregnancy, remember there's a baby growing inside, placenta, liquid, extra blood, water retention.

You’ll put on more in the last trimester so you sound about right to me.

I lost about 6kg in my first trimester, gained it back in the second trimester, and eventually ended up about 10kg over my starting weight (which was a 16kg gain overall).

This pregnancy so far I’ve lost about 7 or 8kg but had a little bit more to lose. I’d imagine I’ll gain about the same amount again.

8kgs seems perfectly normal for the stage you're at. Either way I really wouldn't stress about it though. I gained approximately 19kgs in my pregnancy, which is at the higher end, but I was a healthy size 8 beforehand and no one ever commented on it being excessive. Had lost it all by 6 weeks post partum. Just concentrate on eating as well as you can and make health your focus rather than weight

I would really try not to worry too much. I gained a total of 25 pounds (11kg), but that was all in the first two trimesters. I then massively panicked and basically ended up starving myself in the final trimester- which then ended in my baby being induced at 37 weeks. I had previously suffered from eating disorders so I'm not saying you're likely to go down the same route- but just trust that your body is doing the right thing and try not to worry too much about it- it will come off afterwards!

Sounds about right I think OP. I’m also 28 weeks and have gained just under a stone with half of that being in the last 10 weeks or so. I’m sure I read that in the third trimester you can expect to gain 1lb a week so am expecting to put another 12lb on!

I put on 2 stone by the end of my pregnancy (normally I’m 8 stone) which was more technically than is normal according to nhs but a stone came off automatically after baby was born and I’ve got 11 pounds left to lose which doesn’t seem too bad to me. I was just so hungry and I couldn’t not eat. Also bmi doesn’t work in pregnancy so I wouldn’t worry about calculating that.

Have your boobs grown a lot? That was what accounted for the most weight gain for me - I didn't get back to my pre-conception weight until I'd stopped breastfeeding,

Thanks everyone for all your support! I’m obviously wanting to lose the weight after but main concern was that I was making my pregnancy unhealthy. I’m just going to focus on choosing better snacks where possible!!
