Plug or discharge?

Anyone know how you tell the difference between vaginal discharge and the mucous plug?

Im 39+2 and I know towards the end of pregnancy you can have an increase in discharge, and I've been losing quite a bit of jelly/snot like clear/sometimes white-ish discharge. No blood. Sometimes there's a big blob of it and sometimes there's just a thin bit of it. And weirdly I can feel it come down into my vagina (sorry for tmi) and its usually when the babys head puts pressure in my pelvic area.

If anyone could give me a sign to look out for to determine whether this is just normal discharge or if its my plug coming away slowly, that would be great.

Thank you.

My plug looked like a jellyfish if that’s any help?! And it was preceded by the most painful contraction I’d had up to that point.

I lost mine gradually like you describe in your post with dc1 over the course of a few days. Didn’t have more than a tiny bit of blood occasionally.

With dc2 I didn’t notice losing it at all, up to when my waters broke at 39+5.

I have lost my plug with both my previous children. However, I've never lost it gradually. Always been in one big clump of jelly with quite a bit of blood in it.

Thats why I can't fathom if it's just increased discharge or if its my plug coming away slowly. The discharge I've always noticed before this has been more watery than the one I'm experiencing now x

I was losing chunks of plug last pregnancy and have been again this pregnancy, I’ve never lost it all at once, even when I went into labour before I never had the massive chunk you see some people have, I tend to lose mine in 10p size pieces over weeks and weeks.

Oh and it was more like the texture of undiluted jelly than anything else if that makes sense
