Any types of tea allowed while pregnant?

Hi all. What types of tea are allowed during pregnancy? I used to drink earl grey but stopped having it due to caffeine.

Decaf tea

You can have caffeine if you want caffeine. Three cups of tea a day would still be under the advised 200mg limit, in general. Or you can buy caffeine free tea, or any one of the many many herbal varieties. It's just tea.

Are there new guidelines about drinking tea? That seems very OTT.

You can drink caffeine when pregnant? Just not too much! A couple of cups of tea is fine.

You can have some caffeine, it’s not banned entirely. 200mg per day. I used to have two proper cups of tea a day for example then drink peppermint tea the rest of the time. I’ve carried on doing that even after pregnancy.

I have previously found decaf tea to taste rank but decaf Yorkshire Tea is quite nice! And echo what others have said. NHS website and many others have the 200mg rule

I moved to tea from coffee when pregnant as I could have a couple of cups a day. It didn't seem worth going down the decaf route.

@pissedoffwithprojects I already drank vast quantities of tea before I got pregnant so it was decaf or cold turkey!

2-3 cups of normal tea a day is fine in pregnancy.

I bought some Tetley red bush which is naturally caffeine-free but is also naturally taste-free and smells gross.

I carried on with exactly the same amount of caffeine as before because I didn’t go off it and my consumption wasn’t very high anyway (1-2 cups of coffee a day, very occasional Coca Cola). I recommend the book “expecting better” by Emily Ostler, which outlines the research behind the guidelines and helps you to make an informed decision based on your own circumstances

I have 1 cup of normal coffee each morning then I have a couple of peppermint teas through the course of the day

Decaf Tetleys is nice

I see your question is probably about caffeine but you shouldn't drink liquorice tea, it can affect your hormones. I love it and it made me bleed in early pregnancy.

I've started drinking peppermint or camomile tea with a slice of lemon.

Don’t forget there is also caffeine in chocolate and fizzy drinks too.

Op I was a huge tea drinker so tried to cut down through pregnancy... I hate the taste of decaf tea but found decaf earl great to taste the same!

You can still drink caffeine ! Try to keep it under 200mg. I drink a coffee every morning while pregnant and then drink decaf tea in the afternoons ( because it tastes like comfort )!

I think you're supposed to avoid nettle in the first trimester, but all the ones from mainstream supermarkets are fine as far as I know. You've only got to be careful with some of the Holland and barret-esque ones.

You can still enjoy your Earl Grey, just try to keep it to 3 cups or under a day.

Quite a few of the "fancier" herbal teas have liquorice in them, and there's evidence to suggest that lots of liquorice in pregnancy can be harmful.

I've still been having one cup of tea with liquorice a day, plus 2 cups of builders' tea and loads of redbush.

I have three children and never gave up tea or coffee during any pregnancy is this a new thing 🤷‍♀️

You can get decaf tea but it tastes of old socks. I just had normal but limited to one or occasionally 2 cups a day.
