Hi everyone!

Hope you can help. I'm a freelance journalist and I'm 19 weeks' pregnant. I'd like some advice on maternity allowance please! I've had a look but I think I need it explaining in simple terms.

When do I need to claim by?
How do I claim?
How much will I get?

Anything else you think I need to know!

Thanks x

I know there’s a form online and it’s roughly £600 a month from what I remember. Have a look on the gov.uk website it explains everything x

There is a form on the gov website which is what you need to fill out in order to apply. There is also an eligibility calculator on there which will tell you how much you are entitled to - mine comes to £151 per week which is approx £600 a month as pp said so likely yours will be the same. I don’t know if there’s a deadline but I know you can’t apply until at least 26 weeks pregnant although can be later I assume. Have a look at the gov website about it, there’s lots of info. Hope that helps x
