Fibroid pain at 19 Weeks. Help

Hi all. Currently 19+2. I have a few fibroids. One considerably large one at 10x12cm last time they checked. Over the past 4 days I have been having excruciating pain on my lower right side. The large fibroid is on the right. It’s hard to walk and get a comfortable sleeping position. I’ve been waking up in the middle of the night to get a warm compress. And paracetamol/hot bath doesn’t help. I called a midwife at the mat unit who said take solpadeine which is codeine and paracetamol. I’m not keen on this as have read it could have adverse effects. It’s like I can feel the fibroid squeezing every few mins if this makes sense. I also have brown spotting but have had this on and off since week 8. I have my 20 wk scan on Friday. Has anyone been through anything similar? It’s my first pregnancy and I’m scared this pain is the baby in distress.

Hi Sunny,
Sorry you’re going through this. I had this pain in my first pregnancy, at 20 weeks and neater 30 weeks. It caused Braxton hicks like contractions from 20 weeks every day for the rest of my pregnancy. After a week of agony (thought I was having a miscarriage at 20 weeks) it subsided. I think it might have been the fibroids degenerating/having their blood supply cut off as the baby got bigger. I did just have to take a lot of paracetamol for a week to get through the pain. Anything that made my tummy move (walking, driving etc) was so painful.
Hoping yours eases up soon. On both occasions I was seen at the MAU to check nothing else was happening.

Thanks for your reply. I don’t know if it’s causing Braxton hicks but might be. The only way I can describe is as if every few minutes someone is squeezing the fibroids and it causes pain. This happens every few mins. It also happens at night if I try to change position
