What do I need for changing/cleaning up mess?

What wipes and muslins do I actually need for changing my baby and also for cleaning up general mess after feeding? This is what I've got listed:

Water wipes
Muslin squares
Baby wipes (Pampers)
Cotton wool balls
Cheeky wipes

Do I need all of these things? Do some of them serve the same purpose? Help!

Water Wipes, baby wipes & Cheeky Wipes are basically the same thing.
A lot will depend on what you want to use. For us, we use plain water (initially boiled when newborn, then from tap for later) & cotton wool pads (much bigger & better than cotton wool balls) for in the house, then wipes for when out. We used Water Wipes to start & moved to Aldi Baby Wipes when a few months old.
Muslins you need to clear up spit up, vomit, snot etc, & you should have lots (we've found Ikea ones the best) as they'll need washing.

That's really helpful, thanks @APurpleSquirrel. I wasn't sure which ones did the same job!

I bought all of the things listed before baby was born with the exception of the cheeky wipes... baby wipes and Muslin squares are by far the most used. We didn’t use cotton wool at all in the end and have a massive roll of the stuff in the house taking up space on a shelf...

A pack of water wipes for the hospital is useful and I’d check with your midwife if the hospital prefers you to use cotton wool, from what I read up before the birth some do and some don’t care.

Aldi do nice muslin squares in multipacks, it’s better to have more than you think you’ll ever need because you’ll go through handfuls of the things daily at first and it’ll feel like you never stop washing them. If you’re making a baby shower list, then some of the super-big soft printed ones are a nice little luxury to ask for. Wish I’d asked for some now as can’t justify getting them myself!

Large cotton wool pads for poosplosions and washing baby’s face and bum at bath time. Waterwipes or similar gentle 99% water-based wipes for nappy changes and large and small muslin squares. Large ones are good for feeding and for draping over shoulder and smaller ones you can use for everything from feeding to drying hard to reach places after a bath (armpits etc) and to wiping spills. Amazon has loads of choice and you can bulk buy. We go through muslins like there’s no tomorrow.

We use waterwipes and really like them. We also got some huggies water-based wipes in our bounty pack at the hospital. A big pack too. Look out for the bounty lady on your postnatal ward and grab yourself a bag.

Cheeky wipes are reusable wipes and I've found then far better than either water wipes (found these too rough on new born skin and gave him nappy rash) or cotton wool (too small/fiddly). We just use them with warm water from the tap and they clean up poo really well.
