When did you get a positive pregnancy test with PCOS?

Hello y'all,

My last pregnancy I did not get a positive HPT until I was ten weeks along! I was testing regularly and all I got were BFN.
My doctor told me it could be because of my PCOS.
Has anyone else with PCOS experienced a late BFP?

Not exactly but I thought I'd share my story in hope it helps.
DD was a natural conception well over 10 years ago, I got bfp with her about 6 weeks along.
DS was 3 years of Clomid, not every cycle, and I got a bfp 3 days after period was due.
Current pregnancy, no idea at all until 10 weeks. This is natural unplanned one but is here for a reason.
During my treatment it wasn't mentioned that PCOS can affect bfp's however when i was pregnant with DS early on that he was unlikely to be viable because my pregnancy hormones weren't increasing as quick as they'd like. I went full term and he's a happy 3 year old.

Diagnosed PCOS for over 15 years, was trying for a year. As I had no such thing as a "late" period, I only did tests when I had a wedding to go to (so I knew if I could drink or not). Otherwise I could be doing tests every week! In the end, unexplained nausea and achey boobs prompted me to test. Turned out to be 9 weeks pregnant - and boy did those tests confirm it fast! (Instructions say to wait 2 minutes before checking the test but the positive line was coming up before I'd even put the test down!)

I am currently 14 days late. The last time I took a HPT was eight days ago and it was a BFN. :(
I am too scared to test again. Those BFN are so disappointing!

Hi. I have pcos and was diagnosed 2018. I have been trying for a baby ever since. I dont have regular periods so no idea when to test. My test last week was negative but my boobs hurt (similar to pms) and I'm waking up hungry, emotional and feeling bloated. Can you confirm what your pregnancy symptoms were with pcos? I can't bear to see another Negative!

Both mine were BFPs about 6 weeks after my last period, but both times about 2 weeks after when I thought I'd ovulated (Clomid first time, natural second time). My cycles were wildly erratic though, I took so many tests when TTC the first time, as I could easily go 80+ days with no period! They seem to be more regular now, after DS2, ironically as I don't want any more children.

I was about 6 weeks and had several BFNs before then. One to check I wasn't so could drink! Then later found out I was pregnant lol whoops. Now 38+2 !

I was on clomid and found out day my period was due. However, without the drugs I basically don’t have periods so never knew if/when to test. I don’t think pcos effects when you test positive, but it can make it hard to know when to test! I just used to test on the same day every month just in case....! But for me, it wasn’t going to happen without the drugs really anyway.

Thanks for your comments. I am currently on day 60 of waiting for mother nature. My cycles vary from 37 days to 80plus days, I'm really hoping the reason is pregnancy but I have the doubt in my head the P will arrive any day. I might wait another couple of weeks and try another test if it hasn't arrived. I'm happy to read some people caught naturally, as I hope I do. However we are waiting the fertility but with Covid everything has been stepped back and I feel like my never ending journey to pregnancy is becoming longer and longer.

@Carabu1 Can I ask why you were informed without drugs it wouldnt of happened, if thats not top much of a sensitive question?

I was told I had PCOS after having no periods for a year in March 2019. I was gutted and gave up with contraception as I was told it would be difficult to have children and honestly became a bit lazy. Was pregnant by October 2019 and it was a complete shock! I’m due in July. It’s possible 😊😊

My ovulation and cycle when it did come back was all over the place btw...

@Dannii42 - yes of course - I basically don’t ovulate on my own (or very very rarely - I didn’t know you could have - albeit v irregular - periods and not ovulate but apparently you can!) so for me clomid worked to kickstart my ovulation and I was lucky to get a positive on my third cycle. Next stop after that would have been ivf. Pcos is such a varied condition though; I’ve known I had it since I was a teenager, so when the time came I got checked sooner rather than later, as the tests and referrals do take time unfortunately (for me more than a year from actually seeing go to getting the Clomid - they do so many tests!) good luck! Pcos is so annoying but most women do get there eventually!

@Birdy1991 congratulations on your pregnancy, that's such positive news and a way of looking into this differently.

@Carabu1 thanks for letting me know and I'm sorry you had difficulty getting to where you needed to be. I have been warned its a long process and with me being 33 now, I feel I need to try and get the ball rolling. I'veI've heard good things about clomid and metformin but havent got to that stage yet. How many cycles of clomid do you get before IVF & did you have any side effects?

@Dannii42 - thank you, I’ve just seen your previous post, I had no idea about ovulation or when I’d have a period and then as a result found out at 13 weeks pregnant. I’d had absolutely no symptoms. I wish you all the best xx

@Dannii42 I thinks it’s a max of 6, and had no side effects at all. I’m still on the metformin, in fact, as it lowers mc risk. But they will do bloods to see if it’s working and will increase the dose each time if needed. I was pretty pessimistic going in as the pg rate is only 30-something %, but I think that’s possibly partly because it’s the first line of attack for anyone having issues, so a lot of those women (eg ones already ovulating) it won’t help at all. A bit like you, I turned 30 and freaked out it was time to do something - I know Covid is an extra spanner, but once I started tests I least felt like I was getting somewhere which made it easier. The sense of progress iyswim. Good luck! I suspect I’m an unlucky case - lots of pcos women do get pg on their own.

I've got PCOS and I had a squintier at 7dpo and a more convincing one at 8dpo. They did then take AGES to get dark though so a less sensitive test might not have picked anything up for a few weeks

@Carabu1 I feel like I should have started the process before now as now I feel more pressure. I get so worked up about the situation at times, but i think the whole of this lockdown period has made me be calmer, probably also to do with not working at the moment! Have you had your baby now or due? I didn't realise it causes a higher rate for mc, would the doctors normally put someone with pcos on metformin when they conceive?

@Wanderer1 brilliant news, congratulations. I had a test last week which was negative and I just cant bring myself to do another one to see another negative result. If I havent come on in a couple of weeks then I will test. I feel as though I am due though, boobs hurt, stomach bloated and I've been a cow today to my husband lol

Have any mums with PCOS turned out to be pregnant following multiple negative pregnancy tests?

After following a strict diet, taking multiple supplements etc. I managed to get my body regularly ovulating following months and sometimes years of not menstruating (if anyone wants more detail on lifestyle changes I made do get in touch).

Last month we tried for a baby through artificial insemination. I experienced what I think was ovulary bleeding so I'm fairly confident I ovulated and then roughly 1 week after ovulation I experienced nausea and cramps which I suspected to be related to implantation. I then took 3 standard pregnancy tests (12 dpo, 17 dpo and 18 dpo) all of which came back negative.. My BBT is still on the higher side and there is no sign of my period and unless I didn't actually ovulate I can only think I'm pregnant.

I read that people with PCOS have hormonal imbalances that can interfere with pregnancy tests.

Maybe I'm being too optimistic but has anyone experienced similar?

I had a positive result at 3w5 counting back and it was about 8 weeks from LMP.

Long Post: I have suffered from PCOS for years. Decided to get on the pill did that for 6 months. Took 3 months for my first cycle to come but unlike before.. I got an intense migraine and dizziness. Okay maybe a good sign my hormones are saying hello for the first time in years. Second cycle came.. same thing with the symptoms but it was a weird one. Lasted almost 2 weeks but it was very light then stopped for one day and boom! 3 days of super light pink spotting identical to implantation spotting. I'm curious if this cycle was a period/ovulation all in one. Probably not uncommon with PCOS. It's been 17 days past the possible implantation spotting but nothing but negative tests. I'm over a week late for my next cycle and although I do get some symptoms like peeing more often, sleepiness, and heavier boobs.. the symptoms come every couple days but never consistently like every day. Trying to stay patient and hopeful it's been about 8 years of trying and I'm just now seeing results. Anyone have something similar and do I need to just stay patient for longer?? I see some sayings it took 6 weeks for a positive test..
