Growth scan cancelled

loubert89 · 27/03/2020 16:56

I was told by the sonographer when she handed my notes back that my next scan (at 28 weeks) was cancelled due to the 'current situation'.

Has anyone else had their additional scans cancelled?

OP posts:

LH1987 · 27/03/2020 17:02

No, I have growth scans every 4 weeks and these are continuing, although I now have to go alone. Maybe speak to your consultant to confirm that this is the case.

Mummylanie3 · 27/03/2020 17:15

I had one yesterday at 35 weeks and have another in two weeks mind are carrying on as normal just have to go alone and before I enter they wash hands take temp and ask if your showing signs of have been in contact then let you in

MsChatterbox · 27/03/2020 17:31

I know someone that has had some cancelled and some kept.

Showmeyourhero · 27/03/2020 17:36

Nope, I had one today and have another booked for 4 Weeks time! Sorry to hear that OP, can you ask if there's another option / alternative hospital?

Bookworm83 · 27/03/2020 17:38

I didn't have a growth scan scheduled but my 39-week midwife appointment has been cancelled. I have not been seen since 36 weeks so it's not great!

EstebanTheMagnificent · 27/03/2020 18:06

What was the reason for the additional scan?

mouse1234567 · 27/03/2020 18:12

I had my 28 week growth scan yesterday and am having another in four weeks as baby measuring very big. I’m sorry to hear this, it must be stressful for you.

DJBebe · 27/03/2020 18:31

I had my 12 weeks scan on Monday.

schafernaker · 27/03/2020 18:34

I had my 28 week one today, they tried to cancel my 34 week one but I pointed out DD was iugr and induced after 34 week scan. They have now left it in place.

I think it depends why they are doing the scans, if you are worried then get in contact with them and explain your concern

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/03/2020 18:40

Why the fuck are they cancelling necessary care for pregnant women? Are they diverting sonographers to respiratory medicine now? This is ridiculous and there will be damages as a result

esmerelda1988 · 27/03/2020 18:59

@BuffaloCauliflower couldn't agree more. I'm terrified at the prospect of not being monitored properly and losing the baby/dying myself. Dramatic but a real fear at the moment. I think they're trying to reduce the number of people coming to the hospital but it will have consequences further down the line.

schafernaker · 27/03/2020 19:00

@BuffaloCauliflower they were saying it was to reduce exposure of pregnant women to hospitals etc as they should be socially distancing

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/03/2020 19:05

@esmerelda1988 I’m only 6 weeks but already panicking this won’t be over by November when I’m due. It’s dangerous.

@schafernaker well that’s all well and good, but for one there’s no evidence pregnant women suffer any more than any other healthy adult, and social distancing rules allow for necessary medical appointments, which this is? So doesn’t apply here. They’re just shafting women

esmerelda1988 · 27/03/2020 19:12

@BuffaloCauliflower I'm due 1st October but having a planned c section potentially early if the baby runs out of room which presumably won't be picked up if they're cutting back on growth scans. The sonographer at my 12 week scan this week said she thought by my due date that if things weren't better at least they'd have figured out how to manage things, reassuring!

schafernaker · 27/03/2020 19:12

@BuffaloCauliflower I didn’t say I agreed with it, as I said I stood my ground and insisted they carried out the next scheduled scan. I think if they are telling you whilst you’re at an appointment you have the opportunity to say no and explain your concerns. Obviously more difficult if you just get a letter.

My advice is ensure you are assertive in the appointments.

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/03/2020 19:15

Sorry @schafernaker, my ire is directed at the hospital/the general situation, not you. Just pisses me off that women constantly have to assert themselves to get basic care.

schafernaker · 27/03/2020 19:24

@BuffaloCauliflower frustrating but i guess we are in unchartered waters. Speak up, take a list of questions and non-negotiable and as you have to go to appointments alone discuss with your partner before so their concerns can be taken into account. It’s crap- this is my second and I had a prem whisked off to NICU last time, and we were really hoping for a ‘normal’ experience this time... it’s not going to happen 😢 but hopefully all the measures (along with a little advocating from us) will keep baby safe

BuffaloCauliflower · 27/03/2020 19:27

@schafernaker hopefully. This is my first (well had one MC, hope this keeps progressing) and really want DH at scans and things, it’s his baby too. Really worried about getting into the scan and it being a MMC and I’m alone 😢

LatteLover12 · 27/03/2020 19:35

All my antenatal community care has been cancelled so no doppler check at 16 weeks, no urine or blood pressure checks.

MW is going to call me at 24 weeks to 'check in'

I'm 15 weeks pregnant.

flameprincess · 28/03/2020 12:55

I'm 14 weeks now but have growth scans booked for 28 and 34 weeks. My first baby was small and had complications and the last growth scan led to an emergency section that saved his life. Surely if the scans are to take necessary precautions due to previous history they can't cancel them?

pollysproggle · 28/03/2020 13:00

No mine were kept, I had a growth scan this week and will have them every 4 weeks from now.
If you're being monitored they shouldn't be cancelling them!

schafernaker · 28/03/2020 14:02

@flameprincess you’re in a similar situation to me, yours will be unaffected

flameprincess · 28/03/2020 14:32

Thanks @schafernaker fingers crossed I won't have to argue for them like you did

Nika19 · 10/04/2020 23:30

My 36 weeks scan got cancelled, I just got a letter so no choice.. I didn't have any scan at 28weeks is this due to special circumstances?
I am now 32 weeks and my last and next midwife appointments been over the phone so I never even got a growth chart for the belly. This is my first baby so it's really quite scary.

MonaLisaDoesntSmile · 11/04/2020 06:13

I had both 32 and 36 weeks scans and s face to face mw appointment as usual. They apparently do then every two weeks from now on, but are doing them every the weeks, but still happening.
