Ketones detected in urine

Was just wondering if anyone else has had Ketones detected in their routine urine tests with the midwife? The tests have not shown anything up until now (37 wks). The midwife said it may be that I had not eaten breakfast although I had and she didnt seem particularly worried about it. So I did the silly thing and looked up what it might mean on the internet and am not very encouraged. Pls let me know if anyone else has had them and what it meant

I regularly had ketones due to severe morning sickness meaning that I barely ate.

Are you eating ok through out the day?

nailpolish · 11/09/2007 10:59

i had this becuase i always went early in morning (ie hadnt digested brekkie)

Filthymindedvixen · 11/09/2007 11:00

agree with belgo. ketones may mean you are not eating enough

Puppie · 11/09/2007 11:01

Hi belgo, yep am eating loads as thankfully have not really suffered from morning sickness. Nailpolish I went 2 hrs after eating breakfast..do you think thats long enough? Maybe I just take a long time to digest my food then.

I had this once, when I'd been too tired to eat any dinner the night before
was fine the next time I tested, so try not to worry too much...and make sure you eat a good breakfast...

nailpolish · 11/09/2007 11:03

hmm i think 2 hrs is quite long
if you are worried you should phone mw for reassurance

NoNameToday · 11/09/2007 11:08

Puppie it is nothing to be concerned about.
Did you do the specimen before you went to see the midwife?

How many ketones. I had them every test and when I reached 4 ketones they sent me into hospital with hyperemesis.

As others have said, eat a bit more regularly and make sure you are drinking loads.

saralou · 11/09/2007 11:19

ketones at this stage ae probably more due to diet than any other problems, if the test only showed ketones... nothing to worry about, just eat a bit more!

madmarchhare · 11/09/2007 11:22

I shouldnt worry at all. Most likely be down to diet as most have said already. Im sure if it was anything else to worry about your m/w would have mentioned it.

Puppie · 11/09/2007 11:27

Phew! looking at the internet had me thinking I was developing Pregnancy Onset Diabetes so I feel relieved now I know that other poeple have had the Ketone thing and its been fine. I have been eating ALOT but any old excuse to eat more is fine by me
