We found out Friday that we are having a little boy (this will be DS2). Very excited and seem to have narrowed the names to 2. They are both Turkish names so appreciate that they will prob not be to most peoples taste, but could you possibly just say which you prefer.

Thanks ladies

Ediz
Ilhan

they are both pronounced pretty much how they are written, but I know that is easy for me to say.

I prefer Ilhan, too.
Congratulations btw.

Hi due date bud

I prefer Ilhan here too.
What does it mean?

mixedmama · 11/09/2007 10:16

Thx ladies. DH will be pleased as that is his preference. Haha.

Awen - helllooooo. Well Il means City and han is a common ending to turkish boys names (millions of them) means Khan as in Genghis, so a sort of warrior king. I havent looked up the true meaning to be honest. Dh saw some singer on Turkish Tv with name and just liked it.

mixedmama - dp will be pleased on the other thread too. Why do the men get their way?

Is Mehdi a turkish name?

mixedmama · 11/09/2007 10:27

Could be, it would prob be Medi tho, the H suggests a more Arabic spelling. Altho it could be short for a number of things.

true. A boy who went to school with ds was called Mehdi. Had never heard it before. Think it might be arabic.

HonoriaGlossop · 11/09/2007 10:51

I like Ediz. I think it's easily shortened to Ed or even Eddie, both of which I guess are kind of anglicising the name, but I think depending on the school they will go to, that could be a good thing. Kids like being able to give eachother nicknames and shortenings and it's a way they show their friendship I think. Ilhan sounds a bit more formal, more difficult to nickname.

Which is fine if that is what you want I guess!

Both nice names though.

belgo · 11/09/2007 10:53

I like Ediz.

ELR · 11/09/2007 10:53

DH - 4 Mixedmama - 4

My mum is English and she said Ediz near perfect first time, but had some trouble with Ilhan. She has been married to my dad for 26 yrs and still cant say some of the names of relatives, so the only reason i am stalling on Ilhan is that i need to feel confident it will be a name she will be able to manage eventually not one she will never get.

b4 we knew he was a boy i had a dream that i had a little boy called Ediz.

HonoriaGlossop · 11/09/2007 12:01

aww, then it HAS to be Ediz, surely, mm? Stick to your guns, I think mums should TOTALLY get the casting vote, being as we do all the hard work of actually HAVING the baby.

What you say, goes

mixedmama · 12/09/2007 15:12

Thx Honoria.... that is going to be my argument from now on.

is it eeed-iz or ed-iz?
is it i-han or iL-han?

mixedmama · 12/09/2007 15:19

Hi

It is Ed-iz and Il-han. My brother says Ill-han, but it is Il so shorter.

Ilhan sounds lovely and as people have already said to me - once you tell someone how to say it they should remember easily!

mixedmama · 12/09/2007 15:24
