It's that time of year again, both my babies were born in the summer so this time is when I was in the middle of horrible M/s bordering on HG.

I keep having flashbacks, feeling sick as if I am pregnant again, it's making me feel really depressed and quite upset.

Dpes anyone else have this? It feels like PTSD or something. I don't know what to do.

I'm still pregnant with my first baby and have HG but I know other women have described looking back on HG as being like PTSD. I don't know exactly what you should do but i know you're NOT alone in feeling like this. What about talking it through with a counsellor? Talking it through with people who haven't had it might not be useful enough for you. Do you know about the hyperemesis support group? You might get some help there. www.hyperemesis.org. I'm a member but not an organiser

Best wishes. Take care of yourself.

Are you sure you're not PG again?

Jennifer8 · 11/09/2007 19:40

Thankyou both, how kind to reply...

I'm not pg again...single since about a year ago!

But it is a relief to know that other people feel like this too.

Jen8. yes yes yes. I have this right now. This time last year, at 6-7 wks pregnant with 1st baby, HG kicked in big style and I was in bed until about xmas. Lost so much weight. Completely housebound except the 3 trips to hospital.

Everything is reminding me - the weather, the foods in season, the autumn sunlight, the plants dying off in the garden, being in the house, being in a certain room etc etc. I have a low level sick feeling that I can't shake off.

It's not very nice and I was very down this time last year (had other things happening as well as the HG) and those feelings are churning around in the background too. I'm not depressed now, but it's almost like a shadow from last year.

Anyway, I am hoping that living through this autumn, being well and happy with my beautiful baby boy, means it wont be the same next year. I'm especially sad as autumn was a really happy time for me.

So you're not alone! If it's really getting you down perhaps you could talk to your hv or doc about it. Only if they're someone you trust though. The last thing you need is some professional saying it's all in your head. It's not.

Jen8 - yes - not as bad as yours, but spring last year I was quite sick and when spring came round again this year I started feeling sick again because the weather reminded me.

Oh gosh, Kathy and Tc - thankyou so much for answering, I'm sorry yet glad that I'm not alone iyswim. It can be quite powerful I think, tcmummy it must have been an awful, awful time for you, I did go to hospital one time last year, but didn't get admitted, just injections and stuff. But I couldn't function really for weeks, months. Just lay on the sofa crying etc. I had things going on too which I'm sure contributed to the nausea - my baby's dad was being obnoxious and I left him. So that kind of thing doesn't help. And it was very hard to look after Ds1.
I think it is definitely aomething time will alter...now that you have your little one and are not sick any more, your body will have a different set of memories with which to replace the old ones. So I guess next year will be a bit better.
I know it was with me as I have a four year gap between my boys...it was long enough to forget so that I wanted another baby!

I do find I'm depressed quite often anyway and have been on and off for years, perhaps I will go and ask the Dr but I expect she'll offer me pills again - there may be counselling though so it might be worth it.

Hope you all feel better soon too xx

Radiators here too - can't wake up with it hot and not have flashbacks

Looks like we have a common phenomenon on our hands!

Next time I'll make sure to conceive in Spring...I'm sure it won't be nearly as bad!
